HOT: African-American guests on The O’Reilly Factor
NOT: Guest hosts Rick Sanchez and David Schuster (but then again, people are talking about them again)
Comment by DanOregon — September 29, 2007 @ 3:26 am
Not hot:
Rick Sanchez
Race baiting of any kind
The Democratic debate that no one knew about or watched.
Hot:
The class and grace of Juan Williams as collateral damage in the O’Reilly controversy.
Comment by Laurel — September 29, 2007 @ 3:55 am
Hot: O’Reilly for fighting the smear of George Soro’s Media Matters and the rest of the MSM.
Juan Williams for not putting up with that crap either.
Not: The MSM for doing Media Matters bidding by attacking O’Reilly and Rush Limbaugh by using cherry picked/heavy edited versions of their remarks.
CNN…singled out for allowing a guest not once but twice use the term “Happy Nego” unchallenged about Juan Williams.
David Schuster for 2 things..
1- For trying to sandbag a Congressperson without getting all the facts straight.
2-Using the death of a Solider for a cheap stunt to begin with.
Comment by mlong — September 29, 2007 @ 8:31 am
Hot: Bill O is on fire. Tucker for being the only voice of reason on MSNBC.
Not: David Shuster for even bringing up the dead soldier question. MSNBC (Scarborough and Abrams in particular with an assist to ex-fav Willie Geist) for never shutting up about O’Reilly and repeatedly replaying his comments taken out of context. Losers all.
Comment by moonbeam — September 29, 2007 @ 10:06 am
NOT:
>CNBC, for cancelling OTM. They better put Melissa on as co-anchor of Closing Bell or something. Ironic they cancelled her show just a week after Jon Friedman said she was unappreciated at the network.
>MSNBC for the whole David Shuster mess, and what a mess it was.
LUKEWARM:
>Rick Sanchez - I mean, I get he’s trying to get ratings and whatnot and he did have some valid points, but to spread it across over FIVE days is a bit excessive. Hopefully his show is a BOR-free zone next week.
Comment by Anonymous — September 29, 2007 @ 10:23 am
HOT: Sleazy exploitation of race by MSM, with Bill O’Reilly in the line of fire.
COLD: The shifting positions of Democrats on the Iraq war
Comment by RGL — September 29, 2007 @ 10:52 am
HOT - My favorite Veronica De La Cruz anchoring today on CNN @ 5/10pm and tomorrow @ 7/10pm.
NOT - The sweet Melissa Francis getting sidelined! Its not her fault Nielsen families don’t watch much CNBC.
FUNNY - Cella getting FBN on channel 2 2 8 !!
Comment by Terance — September 29, 2007 @ 11:06 am
Oooh, I forgot one.
DEFINITELY NOT HOT - Dan Abrams’ showing clips from Lockup during his show. Did he bother to mention the boys in the penal facility get better ratings than him?
Comment by Terance — September 29, 2007 @ 11:09 am
Hot: Tim Russert. Great job on the debate, making the candidates answer the tough questions.
Not: Billo’s a little craaaaazzzzy. Rush(though not on cable news) for his awful comments, no matter what troop he is referring to. Oh and CNN, just shut up. When you are attacking people for hateful or ignorant things they have said, dont go doing it yourself
Comment by randy — September 29, 2007 @ 11:14 am
randy… do you just accept whatever the Olbermann feeds you, without actually trying to think about it? It’s really a shame.
http://radioequalizer.blogspot.com/2007/09/rush-limbaugh-troops-controversy-media.html
That’s the real story about Rush and what he said. Here’s the most relevant part, for those who won’t open the link:
“Limbaugh was actually talking about the story of Jesse MacBeth, a fake “soldier” who never made it out of boot camp, yet was utilized by the anti- war left as a “veteran” who agreed with Iraq opponents.”
So he was a PHONY soldier… because he wasn’t… actually a soldier!
Dude, I know you’re only in high school (if you are the same randy)… but come on… you gotta do some thinking on your own!
Comment by ImNotBlue — September 29, 2007 @ 11:32 am
Not Hot: CNN/MSNBC getting their stories from a left wing hit group (Media Matters).
Not Hot: Race baiting.
Not Hot: David Shuster sandbagging a Congresswoman, claiming to be a journalist while advocating for the end of the Iraq War, being wrong about where the soldier came from, and using the soldier’s name for his own left wing agenda when the soldier’s family wanted it kept private.
Comment by bigred — September 29, 2007 @ 12:21 pm
#3 - why is it now a rightwing talking point to assign Media Matters to the Soros’ empire? MM is and always has been the brainchild of former rightwing-smear-assassin David Brock, currently in recovery.
Comment by Arthur — September 29, 2007 @ 1:38 pm
Because Soros is the one holding the purse… and the financier (especially a financier who has made political speeches and interviews confirming his goals of a political overhaul in the US) bears some responsibility. Brock may be the ‘brains’ behind it… but without Soros, it wouldn’t have the money to operate… it would just be another small buoy out in the ocean.

Hot.. Using the Race Card. Not.. Using the race card this early “think spring” Guys.
Comment by mike — September 29, 2007 @ 2:26 pm
I can’t believe no one has said the Fox Report “on a new level.” Not that I am particularly in love with it but just the new set and all the hype should count for something, right?
Comment by Sarah — September 29, 2007 @ 3:46 pm
Here’s the inflammatory quote of the week: “We start with the president of the United States saying to America, ‘we cannot build enough prisons to solve this problem. And the idea that we can keep incarcerating and keep incarcerating — pretty soon we’re not going to have a young African-American male population in America. They’re all going to be in prison or dead. One of the two.”
Pretty horrible, isn’t it? Did Rush say this? No. O’Reilly? Guess again.
So why are we not talking about this? The answer is obvious.
Comment by Missy — September 29, 2007 @ 3:50 pm
So who said it, Missy?
Who thinks that all African-American males are destined to a life of crime, and will eventually wind up in prison?
Surely Sharpton and Jackson will be protesting them any day now… right?
Comment by ImNotBlue — September 29, 2007 @ 4:08 pm
Missy, could it be an infamous ambulance chaser?
Comment by spiffo — September 29, 2007 @ 5:14 pm
NOT Hot: David Shuster for exploiting a fallen American soldier for some ridiculous partisan gotcha game… and pretending he is a journalist.
Not Hot: Tucker for not addressing the David Shuster situation, which occurred during his “6pm hour” on MSNBC.
Not Hot: Rick Sanchez.
Comment by Cory — September 29, 2007 @ 5:35 pm
Let’s see O’Reilly gets slam for saying Blacks are like everyone else..while Edwards says all young Blacks are criminals and nothing?…double standards anyone?
Comment by mlong — September 29, 2007 @ 6:24 pm
HOT: Bill O’Reilly for surviving the best efforts of Media Matters, CNN and MSNBC to “Imus” him. Many people that don’t like O’Reilly came to his defense. Including the first Factor appearance by Jesse Jackson.
NOT: Rick Sanchez for offering the most outrageously racist coverage of the Bill O’Reilly incident.
NOT: David Shuster for sandbagging his guest, resulting in his embarrassing apology and possibly costing MSNBC some Republican guests.
NOT: Dan Abrams gets demoted with his third rate network still in a fight with Headline News for fourth place.
Comment by TBDave — September 29, 2007 @ 7:04 pm
spiffo… you don’t mean a certain Presidential candidate, do you? No… is that possible? I am just shocked!
Okay, enough of the sarcasm… to me, this is the epitome of bias in the media. We don’t have to say “If a Republican said…” because we have obvious examples. To me, the most obvious being George Allen and the “macaca” incident. The media saw that, decided it was ‘racist’ and just kept on hitting until he lost the election. Edwards says something clearly racially insensitive, and if it wasn’t for Missy mentioning it earlier, I would have never heard it. If that’s not cut and dry evidence of bias, I don’t know what is.
Comment by ImNotBlue — September 29, 2007 @ 8:31 pm
hot msnbc !!!!!!!!!! NOT HOT BILLE O”REILLIY RACIST PIG
Comment by michael — September 29, 2007 @ 9:44 pm
Uh-oh… looks like one of Olbermann’s writers have figured out how to visit non-Soros owned sites. Hi michael… thanks for visiting! Bye now.
Comment by ImNotBlue — September 29, 2007 @ 9:58 pm
HOT - The BOR/racism flap. Whether you agree or disagree, it certainly was everywhere, MSM and cable.
NOT - Over hype of the tropical storms. You’d think the weather people were actually hoping for a Cat 5 hurricane.
Comment by Grandpa D — September 29, 2007 @ 10:13 pm
Hot: The Fox Report’s new set.
Not Hot: Rick Sanchez
Comment by Two Cents — September 30, 2007 @ 12:45 am
HOT:
- Bill O’Reilly in the center of the storm and coming out on top…the “smears” against him just didn’t stick. On a side note, Bill must have broken the record for mentioning the word “smear” this week and applying it in as many ways possible - smear job, smear-site, smear-factory, smear-column, smear merchant, etc.
- Keith Olbermann. He got to bash his favorite target, O’Reilly, with entire segments instead of the perfunctory WPITW inclusion this week. Not saying Olbemann is right, just saying he had a lot of material to work with given his ongoing feud. Also had Bill Clinton on promoting his Global Initiative.
NOT:
- MSNBC Democratic Debate…despite a great job of moderating by Tim Russert, the debate pulled poor ratings. Perhaps there is debate viewing fatigue or mabye too many people remembered the Matthews moderated debacle.
- CNN and Rick Sanchez for going after O’Reilly and taking what he was attempting to say and trying to turn it into another Imus event. CNN should remember how it denounced Fox for jumping on the bogus Madrassa story about Barack Obama earlier in the year. CNN lost the high road when it stooped to making hay out of the O’Reilly story.
- David Schuster and whoever wrote that obnoxious, self-righteous apology.
Comment by FishOil — September 30, 2007 @ 3:44 am
#23 - ImNotBlue - come on, there is bias towards both “sides.” The idea that the entire media is out to get Republicans because they are all crazy liberals is just silly.
Here are two examples for your consideration -
1. Remember right before the ‘06 election and John Kerry’s foot-in-mouth moment when the press misinterpreted his speech about if you don’t do your homework you get stuck in Iraq? He was clearly talking about the President, not asserting that the members of the military were uneducated. Nevertheless, the press ran wild with that story and as I remember that episode buried Kerry’s chance at another run.
2. Remember Joe Biden’s foot-in-mouth moment when he was trying to praise Barack Obama (saying he’s “fresh, articulate,”) and the press blew his statement out of proportion and he had to deny that he wasn’t saying that the rest of the African-American community wasn’t “articulate” for a week or so.
Please take these two incidents into consideration….the media will jump on both sides if given the chance.
Comment by FishOil — September 30, 2007 @ 3:51 am
NOT HOT: Olbermann as a panelist on pre-football game shows.
What idiot came up with this idea?
NOT HOT: David Shuster, David Shuster, David Shuster.
For all the obvious reasons.
Comment by Cella — September 30, 2007 @ 5:34 am
Not Hot: Hateful and hypocritical libs coming on this blog and calling Juan Williams an Uncle Tom, or Happy Negro. Disgusting. For the most part, this is a respectful site mixed with plenty of lively debate. Some of us, myself included, cross the line from time to time, but these jackals take it way, way too far.
Comment by bigred — September 30, 2007 @ 12:08 pm
There are two main differences, FishOil, between your examples and the current O’Reilly deal:
1- The Kerry/Biden incident was not taken out of context for the purpose of bashing them… it was their words, which were poorly spoken. The MM didn’t perpetuate a lie, like they’re doing in the O’Reilly case, rather it was Kerry and Biden who misspoke, causing the flap.
2- Kerry/Biden were presidential candidates and elected officials… O’Reilly is a talk show host. Elected officials should be held to a higher standard and more value should be placed upon their words, than the words of any celebrity on television.
Bottom line, I still haven’t see the Edwards incident plastered all over the news and websites, like I’ve seen the O’Reilly story. Maybe they’re waiting until Monday… or maybe they’re ignoring the story… but either way, you must admit, the coverage thus far has been disproportionate.

There are two main differences, FishOil, between your examples and the current O’Reilly deal:
Please the only difference between those and O’Reilly is that you love O’Reilly. If it were Olbermann or someone else whose politics you don’t like, you’d be frothing at the mouth.
Comment by Steve — September 30, 2007 @ 5:38 pm
I’mNotBlue - I wasn’t talking about the O’Reilly thing. You brought up former Senator George Allen and the media’s role in the “macacca” incident and thus were asserting that the Edwards thing has not been covered enough because the media is “liberal.”
I gave you two instances in regards to the media jumping on such an occurance regardless of the politics of the person involved.
I’m not looking to derail the thread with a debate over the media…that is for another thread.
Comment by FishOil — September 30, 2007 @ 5:53 pm
I have to agree with the fact that news has been hard to come by. Like everything in life, it’s typically fiest or famine.
However, I’m personally kooking foward to Jeff Toobin’s book on Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Toobin has always been one of ny favorite TV legal pundits.
