The story of the secret FNC apartment…
Jobacle.com has a story from a former FNC employee about a “secret apartment” in the middle of FNC’s office space and how it was eventually converted over to workspace with one notable exception…a toilet.
The day started just like any other. I navigated my way past the smokers and proceeded through the revolving door at 1211 Avenue of the Americas. I touched down my ID and the glass security doors parted. I journeyed upstairs and walked down the long corridor that I traversed several times a day.
But this time, something was different. A door was ajar.
Not just any door, but one of those that I had passed a million times before and never questioned. Maybe, because it was always shut. Or maybe I was too busy worrying about elections, political conspiracies, and other things I frankly couldn’t give a crap about. The reality is, early on, I probably sized the door up as a generic utility closet housing cable wires and electrical circuits.
The last thing I expected to find in the middle of our floor in the middle of a corporate building was…a secret apartment. That’s right friends, someone was calling my workplace home.
Update: ICN hears that the apartment was built under the supervision of Warren Vandeveer, Senior Vice President, Engineering and Operations. It was for a News Corp. facilities manager who is no longer with the company.

“but I do know the whole thing blew up in his face after he allegedly brought woman employees back to his corporate pad. One of them blew the whistle and the apartment was quickly dismantled. I mean fast.”
That has to be my favorite part.

GA… I wonder if the ‘apartment’ was a full-time apartment, or just a place to rest. I know what the person writing says… but they do also say much of the story is not from a firsthand account. Where I work, I’m friends with a number of people from the engineering department.
Their job is just to fix stuff, and make sure things are working well… but when there’s nothing broken or nothing to fix at the moment… they just sit around and wait. This can be really difficult… especially on the overnight shift. One friend of mine has a special empty office on one of the floors that he likes to spend time in when there’s nothing to do… to catch up on some sleep.
The point is… I wonder if this “apartment” was something like the “on call” room in a hospital… where certain people can stay overnight, just incase they’re needed. Remember, many of the details of the story are acknowledged gossip… so the stories of sex in the “apartment” may just be one of those juicy fibs.
ALSO
Most of the people I work with ARE in their 20s… and recently their offices were moved. When given a chance, they ALL tried to get the desks closest to the wall or window, so nobody could see their computers. It wasn’t so anyone else couldn’t steal their work (our work isn’t of a sensitive nature, and it can’t really be ’stolen’)… but it was so they could play computer games, answer emails, and check out MySpace without the bosses or anyone important seeing. That’s the reason for that… just trying not to get caught!

Well… I guess you could call it stealing from the company… but I don’t like where I work enough to think that’s a bad thing. ;)
As for what goes on in that empty room… no, I don’t wonder. And if you saw the freakshow that makes up my building… you wouldn’t wonder either!

Imnotblue you work for a freakshow. That must be a very rewarding job.Tell us about it.Just joking.I have one question. Are the words “Fox News” cuss words around here?

We’ve often joked that you could make a reality show out of our office… but nobody would believe that people are actually like that.
Actually, I work for a sports network, headquartered outside of NYC.
Is FNC a cuss word? It really depends on who you’re talking to. For some people… bad things start and end with FNC. Wrong as they are, however… they do make things interesting.
