“Tim Russert” moves to MSNBC…
In a move which ICN predicted just last week, NBC announced that CNBC’s “Tim Russert” is moving to MSNBC. I can’t say enough about how overdue this move was as MSNBC always was the better fit for Russert’s show once MSNBC started airing Meet The Press repeats. Now if they can just move CNBC’s “Chris Matthews” syndicated show repeats over to MSNBC where they belong…
MSNBC continues to establish itself as the place for politics, adding the popular weekend talk program “Tim Russert” beginning Saturday, Oct. 5. “Tim Russert” will premiere at Noon ET Saturdays, repeating 6 p.m. ET and 2 a.m. ET and Sundays at Noon ET. The program previously aired weekends on CNBC.
“Tim Russert” features interviews with the country’s most intriguing policymakers, authors, journalists and others, and provides in-depth discussions on politics, entertainment and the media. Guests have included George and Laura Bush, Jimmy Carter, Brian Williams, Rush Limbaugh, Katie Couric, Bill O’Reilly, Kevin Costner, Tom Hanks, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Caroline Kennedy, Jay Leno, Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter, Barack Obama and more.
“As we head into the 2008 election season, the addition of ‘Tim Russert’ to our weekend lineup solidifies MSNBC as the place for politics,” said Phil Griffin, Senior Vice President, NBC News and Executive in Charge of MSNBC.
Said Russert, “While I am extremely fortunate to be the custodian of a national treasure like ‘Meet the Press,’ I really enjoy the opportunity to host another program where I can have a more informal conversation with the world’s most intriguing politicians, athletes, actors, authors and thinkers. After a great decade on CNBC, I look forward to an equally long and rewarding run on MSNBC.”Following is the telecast schedule for “Tim Russert” on MSNBC:
Saturdays:
12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT
6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT
2 a.m. ET/11 p.m. PT
Sundays:
12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PTBarbara Fant is the executive producer of “Tim Russert.”

Isn’t this going to cut into their precious “doc block” programming?

Yes, but it’s better from a branding perspective to have Russert’s shows all on the same network that he appears on. It makes no sense to have him on CNBC.

I can’t find Chris Matthews on the CNBC sked anywhere… does it no longer have a cable re-air?

They may have dropped it…the syndication stations couldn’t have been happy with the CNBC re-air…

Too much of anything is nauseating. It’s not going to prop up MSNBC’s ratings. And to think it’s the place for politics is hyperbole. Russert needs to stick to his Sunday program, where he has a fanatic liberal following.

The formats for Meet The Press and Tim Russert are totally different. The only thing the same is the host. Now I suppose you could get sick of watching Russert, but NBC is betting otherwise. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tim Russert pulls in higher numbers on MSNBC than it did on CNBC…

Move them BOTH to GSN ( the game show network). They’d be a perfect fit for “Liars Poker”.
