Imus to return to radio…
Newsday’s Neil Best writes that Don Imus’ radio vacation looks to be over soon…
Imus fans: Your wait is almost over!
Citadel Broadcasting is close to finalizing a contract with Don Imus that would bring the controversial radio host back to the airwaves, a person familiar with the discussions said Tuesday.
It was not immediately clear from where Imus would be heard, but Citadel owns WABC in New York, making its morning slot a logical destination. It also owns WPLJ-FM.

But if they put it on WABC(AM), that would kill Curtis & Kuby! If they put it on WPLJ(FM), that would kill Scott & Todd! Both have been around for a whole long time… I find it hard to believe that they’d be getting rid of one of those.
Although… C&K is pretty annoying.

I read this yesterday I am glad to see you covering it Spud, is there any news about a simulcast for TV outlet?
Comment by Ree — October 3, 2007 @ 11:21 am
Yea that’s it bring back the nut!
Comment by SHANE — October 3, 2007 @ 11:22 am
Great! Now maybe the Imus groupies can stop whimpering on every thread.. and go curl up with their favorite am/fm radio for a little quality time.
Comment by Terance — October 3, 2007 @ 11:30 am
Imus’ return couldn’t come at a better time, with the war heating up between MediaMatters/Hillary/Soros, and talk radio.
I hope he comes backs strong and ready to fight the ones whose goal it is to control speech in this country.
Comment by cr — October 3, 2007 @ 11:34 am
I would do that ever so gladly—-that so beats watching Morning Blow and the rest of the nonsense!
Comment by Corey — October 3, 2007 @ 11:37 am
THey wouldnt put it on WPLJ. That station is primarily a music station, not a talk/radio like station.
Comment by randy — October 3, 2007 @ 11:38 am
I will be ever so happy to curl up with my radio…IT”S ABOUT TIME! Stop Satan’s advance NOW before it’s too late!
Comment by Corey — October 3, 2007 @ 11:38 am
Imus has a face that’s MADE for radio.
Comment by Marty — October 3, 2007 @ 11:39 am
shane: there’s always room on the airwaves for one more nut!
terrance: we will do just that, thank you
marty-you’re so right, that’s why he will be have a tv cable simulcast, just so we can look at his pretty face!
p.s. he will be on WABC
Comment by cas — October 3, 2007 @ 11:53 am
As a proud Imus groupie, it will be great to stop whining. Never would have been anyway if all the “watchdog” groups would have left me alone! It’s way past time for Imus to come back on radio and tv. Besides I love to look at his ugly face but most of all just hear his voice.
Comment by Anne B — October 3, 2007 @ 12:02 pm
So is Imus going to use the N word B word H word and the other N word? Well those aren’t words those are letters. But you know what I mean? I think? Oh SH*T I give UP!
Comment by SHANE — October 3, 2007 @ 12:07 pm
Love him or hate him, it will be a major media event.
As Flounder from Animal House said, “This is gonna be greeeaaat!”
Comment by Obama in 08! — October 3, 2007 @ 12:07 pm
This is great news. The “I” man needs to return so that
he can get right into the upcoming presidential race.
He’s the best. Let’s hope they simulcast it too. Get rid of Morning Joe.
Comment by Bill — October 3, 2007 @ 12:16 pm
May those that love the I-Man take solice in the fact he is coming back. That’s a given. For those that don’t like IMUS. Well I guess you will have to change your listening habits. After Hillary loses the election maybe she will start a show. Or you can always listen to Al Sharpton at 1PM EST. He is a lot of fun.
When a winner emerges there is always a loser. We saw that with MLB (The Mets). You can’t have it both ways.
Hope you enjoy the ride. Because it is going to be the best Premier in the History of Radio. Imus is the “Comeback Kid” of the 21st century. Just in time too.
Comment by Bruce — October 3, 2007 @ 12:25 pm
Is it a coincidence that Newsday breaks this story within two weeks of the debut of FBN?
As Paul Harvey might say: what is the rest of the story?
Comment by Ira — October 3, 2007 @ 12:29 pm
Ira,
I like the way you think, Lord Hear our Prayer. What do you suppose all the weasels who stabbed him in the back last April, are making of this?
Comment by Ree — October 3, 2007 @ 12:32 pm
As IMB points out, what about C & K? Weren’t their ratings always better than those of Imus, even when they were on the air at the same (morning) time?
Comment by Missy — October 3, 2007 @ 1:00 pm
Can’t wait for the iman’s return!! Great News!!
Comment by lovetheiman — October 3, 2007 @ 1:06 pm
WoW great…need the iman ASAP!
Comment by Dave — October 3, 2007 @ 1:10 pm
Here are the first words he should utter when he comes back on ..”Nappy Headed Hoes!!!”"Nappy Headed Hoes!!!”"Nappy Headed Hoes!!!”. LOL!!!
He should of never been taken off the air for it and I hope he’s learn that caving into the PC crowd doesn’t work..take a page from Rush and O’Reilly..fight back!!!
Comment by mlong — October 3, 2007 @ 1:19 pm
mlong, you’re right. Rush is not letting up on Media Matters - he’s been on the attack ever since they launched out at him. Of course, his audience is much larger and his management came to his defense, but he’s doing the right thing. And all these military people are coming to his defense as well. Nice try, MM.
Comment by Missy — October 3, 2007 @ 1:23 pm
C&K will find another time slot. Imus is an icon, hall of famer - of course, he was going to come back. I will actually have to tune in to see Keith Olbermann cover the story when it’s announced officially. hee hee hee
Comment by moonbeam — October 3, 2007 @ 1:28 pm
Yes, we Imus fans stick together. I have nothing against C&K except that when Kuby worked with Bill Kunstler, if you were white you ain’t right. Tried to listen to that program a few times but coun’t take it. And it is strictly for NYC.
Comment by Mary — October 3, 2007 @ 1:40 pm
This is the best news I have had since April! Cannot wait to get the group back together without the back-stabbing weasels. And you sponsors out there, I’m buyin’ whatever you are sellin’.
Comment by Bobbie Reinecker — October 3, 2007 @ 2:11 pm
Missy (17) Curtis and Kuby did beat ‘Imus In The Morning’ in the New York Area.
This would make no sense except for the very short term, Yes, when Imus comes back ratings will shoot up, but they won’t stay there.
Does Citidel own any other stations in the New York City area?
Comment by puck — October 3, 2007 @ 2:24 pm
Such great news to have Imus returning. Looking forward to a TV broadcast as well as radio.
Comment by JAB — October 3, 2007 @ 2:53 pm
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus, and he’s coming early! Finally my morning will have some decent radio again. The IMan is THE MAN.
Comment by Apphouse50 — October 3, 2007 @ 3:13 pm
FNC just mentioned the Imus and the Citadel close to signing.
Comment by Ree — October 3, 2007 @ 3:32 pm
Audience isn’t the final determinate money is and Imus out bills C&K.
Comment by ChannelXRFR — October 3, 2007 @ 4:09 pm
As an Imus fan, I am positively thrilled that our wait is almost over..Just remember, if you don’t like what he says, fell free to
JUST CHANGE THE STATION !!!
Comment by cindy feldman — October 3, 2007 @ 5:27 pm
Oh please let there be a Sat Radio outlet or an Internet feed. I’ve missed the old goat.
Comment by Alison — October 3, 2007 @ 7:02 pm
If you don’t like Imus, for God’s sake just turn the dial. I hope Proctor and Gamble will be one of his sponsors. Haven’t bought a single P&G product in the past 8 months and I want to go shopping! BTW, you anti-Imus people, haven’t you heard of theTVboss.org? But the dial or the clicker works just as well, too.
Comment by Anne B — October 3, 2007 @ 8:29 pm
Well, 6 months, actually.
Comment by Anne B — October 3, 2007 @ 8:31 pm
This is the BEST news. When i find out when and where i’m taking a few days off work to park my whining “butt” in front of the tv, radio or both to just listen!! I have gone through not liking to liking him. When i didn’t like i was a GROWNUP and turned the dial! ::smile:
Comment by Debbie J — October 3, 2007 @ 8:52 pm
C&K beat Imus for the last several years when they were pitted against each other, but Imus might end up bringing more to the station due to the publicity, syndication, etc.
If it happens, it will be interesting to see if WABC gives his program the free rein that he needs. C&K have good chemistry, but between local and national news each half hour, traffic and weather on the sevens, Warner’s sports, and constant commercials, it seems that they pack about 20 minutes of conversation into a four-hour show.
Comment by chalmers — October 3, 2007 @ 9:15 pm
When will the announcement finally come? I want to be sure and TIVO olbermann - Haven’t watched Countdown, NBC Nightly News, The Today Show, Meet The Press or even allowed MSNBC on our tv since that cowardly morning when Rev Al “got his way”.
I doubt that NBC honcho’s care, but they lost alot more viewers than they gained when they fired the old goat. Imus was truly a unique venue to hear news, music, and opinion. Nothing like it before or since.
