MSNBC to air Republican debate in Iowa…

MSNBC announced this morning that it will be airing a Republican presidential candidate debate from the University of Northern Iowa on November 6th…

MSNBC will telecast a Republican presidential candidates debate live from the University of Northern Iowa on Nov. 6, 2007, university and network officials announced today. The debate will air from 9-11 p.m. ET from the university’s Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center. MSNBC.com will also stream the debate live. This debate, which was originally announced last February, was originally slated to take place at Iowa State University.

“As the political season heats up, Iowa is the place to be and we’re excited to partner with UNI to provide this important forum for the candidates,” said Phil Griffin, Senior Vice President, NBC News, and Executive in Charge of MSNBC.

“We’re thrilled to team with NBC News and MSNBC to host the debate,” said Benjamin Allen, UNI President. “This is a unique opportunity for a public comprehensive university like UNI to showcase itself before a national audience.”

  1. I would have no qualms about this debate being aired by NSNBC as long as we don’t have Bubbleman and Matthews. That’s what I would call a tragedy.

  2. Glad to see that at least one of the political parties is not afraid of the media. Even when they are blatantly hostile towards that party. wink, wink, nudge, nudge…Dems…..
I know it’s been said, but How do we expect the Democrats to fight terror when they are afraid of Brit Hume? Seriously!

Yeah. The Republicans are just afraid of minorities apparently. Well some of them. The ones with the most to lose anyway.

Face it, both sides are looking pretty foolish right now albeit for different reasons…

  4. Hey Spud, I think you may have been thinking about the CBC debate that SOME of the Democrats skipped out on.

Also, what were the ratings on that PBS debate? So really how many people were reached? If you’re thinking about the people who were there, in person for the debate, I believe the debate was in Maryland, where you can only vote your party in the primaries, so, what would be the point? Maryland is a very blue state. And, I think Family Guy re-runs were up against the debate so PBS never stood a chance.

On the other hand. Fox news crushes in the ratings and if the Democrats had any spine they would show up and reach a huge nationwide audience. Their loss.

The point of all these debates is to get your face and name out there. It can’t be to figure out where the candidates stand on any one issue, because they only get 1 minute to answer.

  5. NBC excluded 2008 Presidential candidate, Ambassador Alan Keyes from the Republican Michigan debate in October. NBC said the Ambassador had filed papers with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) announcing his candidacy too late. Never mind that Fred Thompson filed papers only 9 days earlier than Ambassador Keyes, and NBC included Thompson in the debate. Never mind that Ambassador Keyes placed 3rd in Sept. 17 Ft. Lauderdale Values Voter Debate. I want to see Ambassador Keyes included in the upcoming debate in Iowa.

Fred Thompson announced 9/5/07 - included
Ambassador Keyes announced 9/14/07 - excluded
