I'm a moderate Democrat--or, in Malkin's parlance, a 'nutroot,' 'moonbat,' lefty loon, etc.--who would like to send a couple of dozen roses to her for her role in making views I disagree with on pragmatic ground ideologically unpalatable to so many reasonable people. I quite like her, actually, and am upset to be deprived of her entertaining burbling on The Factor. I'm actually worrying now at the apparent backlash by intelligent conservatives against so many years of having their representatives proved wrong. Things always go wrong when the political system is out of balance and Malkin and her friends at Fox may have turned the wheel too far and too hard for too long.

I'm personally very grateful for Malkin's contributions to public discourse, though I'm a moderate Democrat---or, as she'd put it, a 'nutroot' or 'loon.' (As she hilariously says in her note, "stop projecting!')

Let's face it: if Geraldo Rivera can drive you off the battlefield with his rhetoric, you're probably not carrying all that much firepower. She makes a lot of noise; and in doing so, she drowns out much more reasoned/persuasive/intellectually credible argument from conservatives and convinces people that she represents the conservative/Republican 'brand' (which is not the case).

Ultimately, this seems to be damaging Republicans much more than Democrats, if the recent report in the WSJ is correct.

Malkin's an easy target, and fun to write or read about, but if I and other people from the so-called left stopped paying attention to her, her relevance would evaporate in very short order. Her ideas haven't stood up to scrutiny and experience has tended to show that they're not the right ones. Most [non-blogging] Americans are pragmatic people; if a particular view doesn't lead to an outcome they like, they won't stick to it. Certain media organizations and politicians may find in the next few years that they've 'misunderestimated' American common sense at their peril. I can't see Malkin featuring much in the public debate if the current trend continues, though perhaps she'll retain her very special niche.

Can I just say that I'm a moderate Democrat---in Malkin's parlance a 'nutroot' or 'lefty loon'--who just ADORES her? Like Coulter, she is endlessly diverting. I think she is quite a bit younger than Coulter, isn't she? She hasn't developed as thick a skin. Ann C would have eaten Rivera for breakfast, for example.

Both of them amuse the hell out of me. Poor Malkin hasn't been right about very much...and, sadly, even when she IS or MIGHT be right, she isn't in the business of persuading but of demonizing the opposition. Which is why she's so entertaining: she so TRANSPARENTLY crafts her views to be appealing to those who already agree with her. She's the OPPOSITE of dangerous, I think. The dangerous people (and I quite like them even though I don't agree with their politics) are Buckley, Hitchens, P.J. O'Rourke, Sullivan, and others who are in the business of changing people's minds.

I have it on very good authority that Fox knew about Marsden's PERSONAL history before they hired her. They also didn't care because they knew most of it was made-up or exaggerated garbage that had nothing to do with her professionalism. Fox's view is that if they're attacking you personally, you must be hovering right over the target. The left hates Marsden almost as much as they hate Coulter, and Fox considered the ONE negative article merely an indication of that. If Marsden was "horrible" on Red Eye because as a political expert she refused to lower herself into the gutter. Some women on Fox have integrity and standards and refuse to play the bimbo.

Oy vey... this again. Please, let us remember, people, that O'REILLY is the only one who has lost Michelle... she said specifically that she'd still appear on other FNC programs. FOX has not lost her... only Bill!

And Laura Ingram is still there. She may have been out for a bit... but she was back recently.

Hey, wanna see something funny. Go down to the other post about Michelle. Since it was linked to by some lefty blogs... they really came out of the woodworks to post.

The funny part is, they did just what Michelle in this letter said they were doing. "...I’ve been fired, concocting imaginary scenarios of tearful resignations, tinfoil-rattling in hopes that there’s some other conspiratorial reason behind my decision, falsely asserting that it was somehow related to my coverage of the S-CHIP debate, etc., etc., etc."

There are a whole bunch of comments that relate to all of that... and then a bunch talking about how bad FNC is... how O'Reilly should be fired too... etc. I sometimes wonder if those blogs, with they're very loyal followers, just put up posts for their people to use... kinda like a Mad Libs of anti-FOX things to post... "FOX News (negative verb), and Bill O'Reilly should be (negative action)."

Anyway, they gave me a laugh.

I am old enough to remember Jane Fonda and all the spitting
on soldiers and so is Geraldo so it was very offensive and
he is still not sorry. He's wrong no matter what you think
of Michelle.

I'm a Republican, but Malkin is as shrill and childish as they come. She can't take criticism, always whines about the nasty comments others make about her and whenever she tries to start a fight, retreats behind the "don't hit a girl" line when attacked.

Hey Ella (or Rachel) I suggest people take time a do a little research on Ms. Marsden and her various trips away from normative behavior like this for example http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2007/03/29/marsden/index_np.html Comparing Malkin to her in any way is vile.

I can only see Fox looking good by getting rid of Marsden and Malkin.

Rachel Marsden was hurting Fox with all the horrible press she was getting. She made false claims against one of her college professors. She stalked an individual. She was a nutcase. Even her father had issues. He is a college professor and he was doing one of his students.

Rachel was clueless on "Red Eye". The show has gotten much better since FNC security escorted RM out of the building.

Malkin is a shrew. She has no credibility. She can dish out all kinds of attacks but she can't take any heat on herself. Coulter just laughs off attacks. Malkin has a hissy fit and takes her glove and ball and runs away when it gets tough.

Rudi- FNC tried her out doing several different jobs. She didn't do well at any of them and they let her go when her contract was up. I haven't seen any other newschannel pick her up. And since when was Rudi an expert on politics?

Laura--she's on FNC all the time. When have they "lost" her?

Shane, I don't like Gerlado or Malkin. With that said, I think Geraldo was completely out of line and should've been fired. I especially have an issue with a man talking that way to a woman.

Malkin lacks class. THIS is how you do class in a situation like this:

Malkin was a pouty spoiled brat, you could see it. So this doesn't come as a surprise. THat being said, Fox has lost almost all of its political women. Laura Ingraham, Malkin, Rachel Marsden and Rudy Bakhtiar. Big losses, bad move for any political channel that wants to seem credible.

Yeah, the "spit threat" is pretty silly. Rivera wasn't saying he would spit on Malkin, he was saying he wouldn't -- because they live in different cities. Which makes for an insult, not a threat.

Perhaps Malkin was planning to move to NYC and is now afraid to because of Rivera's phlegm-based deterrent.

In reading about this flap on the Internet, I've seen the phrase "no one plays the victim better" applied a few times to Malkin. I don't think she's really that skillful at it, but she is very energetic.

I agree this is NOT a gossip site... but Michelle's shtick is to always blame someone, and in this case it seems our friend Spud is the one to take it on this score.

I've been visiting this site long enough to know this isn't a "gossip" website...and the whole scenario regarding Malkin's departure turned out to be true. The person who appeared to be the main fill-in for the top-rated cable news show had left said show...that's news.

Malkin made a principled decision and she should be commended for that....although taking her ball and going home seems a bit immature to me, especially when it comes to dealing with a hack like Geraldo Rivera.
As far as her blog goes...if she is the accomplished writer that she says she is, then wild comments on "far-left" websites should be brushed off. In my opinion, she should try to avoid playing victim to the "left-o-sphere."
