MSNBC needs to find somebody else to do the morning show. Also, they need to take Joe and put him back on at night, because he at least seemed to be averaging around 500,000 viewers a night, a figure that Abrams is lucky to even sniff.

My goodness, MSNBC needs to replace Morning Joe with Imus.
This guy is killing the station in the a.m. It is the worst.
Almost as bad as that Olberman guy in the evening.
Comment by Bill — October 16, 2007 @ 7:27 pm
Bill, you destroyed all your credibility when you said “almost as bad as that Olbermann guy in the evening”. I fully understand that you don’t like Keith Olbermann and that he is a polarizinf character, but some of us do, and that fact is reflected strongly in the ratings, especially recently. To claim the highest rated commentator on MSNBC, as well as the majority of CNN and HLN is “hurting” the network is ridiculous to say the least.
Comment by Beagle — October 16, 2007 @ 7:40 pm
I’ve passed by Abrams’ 9pm offering a couple times… I thought he did a decent job on his old 6pm action. Now he seems to focus on celebrity crap, ripping the competition, and previewing LOCKUP! So, I guess the next stop will be going back into practice, eh.
Comment by Terance — October 16, 2007 @ 7:45 pm
I don’t think Bill destroyed his credibility..just voicing his opinion. Truthfully though, if you look at the raw data..Olbermann gets a lot of ’sneak-n-peeks’ to see what ‘far out’ opinion he’s attempting to pass off as ‘Truth’. Fox has locked up that time slot for now..but look at Beck at the 7 and 9pm time slots, and he’s got Olbermann beat too. I thought Olbermann on ESPN was refreshing..now, not so much. I know I’ll be villified and throttled for my opinion..but that just proves my point then doesn’t it?
Comment by Chuck — October 16, 2007 @ 7:54 pm
It appears that Kudlow & Company was a big improvement for CNBC in its new timeslot.
Comment by Ira — October 16, 2007 @ 8:05 pm
MSNBC needs to simulcast Curtis & Kuby, they will probably have better numbers than Morning Joe.
Comment by RJ — October 16, 2007 @ 8:10 pm
Well…doesn’t look like FBN took a big bite out of CNBC’s ratings, at least for day 1.
Ira: Kudlow’s numbers have (so far) only been “good” yesterday…last week he scratched BADLY in the demo.
CNN seemed to have a good night yesterday — interesting that LKL had Donald Trump on, and Trump himself said that whenever I come on a show the ratings jump, and “warned” Larry his numbers would be good too.

How does Beck Have Olbermann beat as well? The logic just isnt there. You cant add together the 9 and 7 showings if the competitor doesnt have airings like that.
Comment by randy — October 16, 2007 @ 9:37 pm
I won’t vilify you, Chuck, but I am curious where you got the idea that ‘Countdown’ is supposed to be a straight news show. It should be pretty clear that he’s “passing off opinion” as, um, opinion.
Haven’t you seen any of the promos? They say things like “You’re entitled to his opinion” and “The opinions expressed on this show will make you mad, sad, throw things at the TV”, etc.
So where exactly did you get the idea that Olbermann is trying to pass off his opinions as anything other than opinions?
Comment by berberry — October 16, 2007 @ 9:58 pm
RJ, I still hold out hope that MSNBC might one day decide to try a little diversity and simulcast the Tom Joyner Morning Show.
Not bloody likely, I know. But if they get tired of Morning Joe’s low numbers I think it’s at least remotely possible that they might try a simulcast of Alison Stewart’s NPR morning show.
Something to hope for, anyway, cuz I don’t think they’re going to stick with Joe forever.
Comment by berberry — October 16, 2007 @ 10:03 pm
RJ, Yes!!!!!!!!
I know it was one of the most “campiest” programs ever on TV, but I just loved Curtis & Kuby when they had their noontime program on MSNBC. Curtis is a riot, and I love how hyperbolic he gets, the words he makes up and his arguing with Ron Kuby. And his special effects are great - he’d just draw stick figures for graphics, and just yesterday, he was on some program with a pitchfork (forgot what the topic was; sorry).
Anyway, bring them back. While I know they’ll get picked up somewhere on radio (or maybe they’ll even keep their morning WABC slot), Curtis is made for TV!

If a Martian were to land on earth tomorrow, and I show him that O’Reilly had 2,224,000 viewers at 8 p.m. last night and Olbermann had 630,000 viewers at 8 p.m., will the Martian conclude that Olbermann has “high” “ratings”?

****but I am curious where you got the idea that ‘Countdown’ is supposed to be a straight news show****
Perhaps from among the many fawning pieces in the print media?

His ’special comments’ are clearly marked as commentary. The rest of his show is often passed of as news & he as a journalist. To deny that is to be patently dishonest.

But the moonbats have told me Olby has a “lock” or “dominance” or whatever.

berberry, obviously you are a fan of Countdown and you sound just as lame as the Olbermann haters. Please do not insult the thinking folks of this blog that MS-NBC/NBC and the MSM haven’t being trying to peddle Olbermann as a “newsman” verses the liberal pundit that he actually is.

Morning Joe gets worse and worse. I will turn to it on commercial breaks to see how terrible it is and today it was Joe fawning over Erin Burnett, yet again. She’s not that great, Joe! I tune her out and turn the channel. Mika was sitting there miserable and Willie, what can I say? Poor Willie.
Comment by moonbeam — October 17, 2007 @ 11:20 am
I don’t watch MSNBC at all, except for Matthews. I used to watch Scarborough in the evening. The evil schmuck who is on MSNBC at 8 p.m. ET is nothing but a slimy, despicable propagandist. If you think Michael Moore is a documentarian, then you probably also think that that disgusting America-hater is a journalist. He is an evil jihadi sympathizer who should be tried for treason. And no, I’m not joking. I’m not attempting to be playfully ironic, I really loathe that slimeball. I despise him. I hate his guts. I detest him. He is a sexual predator, just like his home boy, Bubba. When he dies, I’m going to dance on his grave and sing about how glad I am that the “worst person in the world” is dead and burning in hell for his crimes against journalism.

Erin Burnett is beautiful! I mean, drop dead gorgeous…She’s exquisite. Graceful, witty, smart, feminine. She’s awesome. Any man who didn’t fawn over Erin, well…probably watches a lot of Bravo. Although it might be a little unseemly for a married man to
fawn over her on live TV.
