What’s hot/What’s not: 10/21/07
What’s hot:
FBN Launches - After the several week long wave of buzz, FBN finally launched on Monday.
Get wars - It was a week of exclusives that didn’t turn out so exclusive as CNBC and FBN battled it out through the week. The war reached its crescendo with FBN’s Warren Buffett exclusive which you know just had to leave CNBC fuming. Which leads me to…
Liz Claman debuts on FBN - After weeks of speculation and hints that she would, Liz Claman signed with FBN and was on the air on Thursday. And she starts off by landing Buffett for an hour. What’s your encore going to be Liz?
America has two coasts - CNBC brought Fast Money out to Silicon Valley on Friday. CNBC also set up a Silicon Valley bureau earlier this year. FBN launched with a San Francisco/Silicon Valley bureau this week. ICN, being a completely unbiased disinterested Californian who wouldn’t dare stoop to partisan localism, says it’s about time the west coast gets a little love from a cable channel. And since ICN is a completely unbiased disinterested Northern Californian who wouldn’t dare stoop to partisan localism, I’ll add that L.A. bureaus don’t count. Actually, anything south of Big Sur doesn’t count but that’s another story…
MSNBC leave Secaucus - Just a little less than 24 hours from now the switch will be thrown in 30 Rock and a new day will dawn for MSNBC.
What’s not:
MSNBC leaves Secaucus - Believe it or not, ICN hears that there are some MSNBC staffers who are genuinely sad at the prospect of the old shop closing down. So this one goes out for them.
Weather Plus gets lonely - Not ready to move to Englewood Cliffs yet, the Weather Plus folks are going to continue to occupy a very large and now much more vacant building in Secaucus for a while.
Red Eye moves to 3am - This one is a reader response submission as apparently FNC fans aren’t happy with the move. I say DVR/tape it.
Phony announcements - I’m still dining on those ashes…

I think Liz was on Thursday.

“…there are some MSNBC staffers who are genuinely sad at the prospect of the old shop closing down. So this one goes out for them.”
Should I spill some liquor or something onto the ground? Maybe I’ll go visit the old studios… there’s a big outlet mall over there… I could use a new suit.

Maybe a fresh start give MSNBC some ratings, they have really tanked for last decade and it’s gotten better in some slots the last 6 months and in other slots it has gone straight to hell.

How many people is CNBC laying off?BBC laid off 2500.

Why would you think CNBC is going to lay people off? It’s only been a week…god you people jump to conclusions WAY too fast…

The big problem with the Red Eye move isn’t the time. To me 3am is basically the same as 2am. Maybe it has more affect on West Coast people.
But they moved it without bothering to tell anyone. If it wasn’t for this blog, I would have tuned in at 2am and thought that the show was canceled. My cable listing still thinks it’s on at 2am next week.
Red Eye could become a big hit for FNC. They should have more respect for the show and it’s viewers.

Everybody says tape Red Eye and watch it at another time. The nice thing about Red Eye at 2 a.m. was it was a nice way to end the day. Those guys and gals make me laugh! 3 a.m. is just too late. I hope FNC changes their mind.

Matt, I second that recommendation, as 2am (and now 3am) is a little too late for me. My DVR automatically records it and then I just watch it the next morning as I’m getting ready. Would be great to see it moved to midnight or even 11 so that more people would be exposed to it.
