The Hazards of Live TV: #24,909
Oh dear…just when I got done posting a blog entry on MSNBC’s good day, I tune in to see the handoff from Countdown to Live with Dan Abrams and instead I see a test pattern. I don’t know where the trouble originated because Abrams says “Thanks Keith” which implies that internally everything was up and running.

Maybe the test pattern will get better ratings than what he’s been able to pull in lately…

Oh, there’ve been other technical glitches throughout the day (and I only caught a total of about two hours), several involving faulty mic levels and running the wrong video. I wasn’t so surprised by the appearance of that test pattern.
This sort of thing is bound to happen a few more times. It’ll become second nature to the producers and techs soon enough, I hope.

MSNBC is one giant technical disaster. Why is this such a shock?

Technical disaster, Alison? Care to elaborate? And what exactly did Spud say that led you to infer that he was in shock?
Have you ever attempted to participate in discourse that rises above the level of 3rd-grade hyperbole? You should. It can be rewarding.

I love how people will say give FBN a break and why are you posting everytime they have a glitch,
but they think nothing of bashing MSNBC when they have similar problems.
Can there ever be a comment posted here in a MSNBC blog entry that does not include bashing for the sake of bashing?

One curious implication occurs to me: that Dan Abrams is likely monitoring an internal feed rather than an off-the-air feed. That was a no-no when I was in radio, but maybe things are different in TV. Or when there’s a production crew.
Either that or the MSNBC crew has been coached to ignore that sort of glitch entirely and continue as though nothing is wrong. I kinda doubt that, but I’m not sure why.

I noticed tonight that for most of Live with Dan Abrams, the red “live” graphic was not up? So much for the title Dan.

#5 Richard: No.

I saw this; it happened about 30 seconds before the end of Countdown. On some weird level, I thought GE finally pulled the plug on MSNBC and this was some evil plot just to get NBC News out of New Jersey.

#5 They all make mistakes. It’s equally irritating that whenever FNC makes a chyron error it’s somehow a slur against Democratics.

5: It seems some people have problems with their manners here.

Berberry: coming from someone who only posts on this board to defend her imaginary tv boyfriend, and has no interest whatsoever in any other television subject, I’ll just consider the source and see it (and you) for who and what you are. But if you want a fine example, check out ICN this morning, seems that MSNBC now thinks that Mika is Andrea Mitchell. Oops!
Comment by Alison — October 23, 2007 @ 8:32 am
I only post on this blog when I have time to spare, Alison. The weather is ugly right now and therefore I have time.
How would you know my gender or what my TV interests are? Do you fancy yourself a psychic? If so, you need to practice a bit more because you’re wrong on both counts. Not that it would matter to you, I’m sure.
And you characterize the Mika/Andrea thing as a “disaster”? No wait, a “giant technical disaster”?
Have you ever tried to say anything meaningful, Alison?

#12, thanks Alison.
berberry (aka; orin “Leona” english, Dorrie, Kathy, etc.) go back to the fangirl sites where you belong to have “meaningful” discussions of Olbermann’s nightly tie selection.

OMG… how about this for a question… Can Kevin go to a blog today that shouldn’t incite any sort of argueing and actually see people DISCUSSING THE TOPIC MATURELY? We’ll see…
Comment by Kevin O — October 23, 2007 @ 9:44 am
I can answer that one right now. The answer is no.
