What’s hot/What’s not: 11/18/07

What’s hot:

CNN’s Democratic Primary Debate - CNN scored big in the ratings for its Primary debate last Thursday.

Out in the Open - CNN’s Out in the Open generated a lot of buzz on the internet this week when it did that segment on the McCain response to the Hillary Clinton question.

Lou Dobbs - The story broke in the Wall Street Journal that Lou Dobbs might be contemplating a run for President.

What’s not:

Over-reaching in the commentary/reporting regarding the Judith Reagan lawsuit - Call me naive, but it seems to me that the facts are not yet known in this case. That hasn’t stopped some quarters from trying to tie this to FNC, even though the suit was aimed at News Corp. I’m not saying it’s not possible. But the fact is I just don’t know. And neither does anybody else for that matter. Let’s see the evidence.

FBN erroneously reporting that Apple was buying a stake in AMD - I don’t think I need to say any more on that one.

  1. Sweet Jesus, I’m taking Spud out for lunch, pick the spot, he’s done gone crazy for CNN after his (must have been delicious) meal with Sanchez.

  2. I agree that some perspective is needed in this Reagan lawsuit. The ties to FNC seem tenuous at best, and at least according to Roger Parloff over at CNNMoney, the whole suit “reads like one of those humor pieces in The New Yorker, where it not-so-gradually dawns on the reader that the narrator is out of his gourd. Even though you’re hearing only one side of the story, that’s enough to make up your mind against the griper.”

  3. C’mon Spud, everybody voted CNN as hot for the ratings, and not for the way they handled the debate. Not to mention, its not even just us, a lot of people around the blogosphere and in the news have commented on this. God even CNN’s president said he felt uncomfortable with the whole Carville post debate. So Spud, why dont they deserve a not hot as well?

  4. One of the big stories to emerge all over the MSM regarding CNN’s coverage of the debate is the fact that they stacked the deck, and went in the tank for Hillary.
It was a bigger story than the actual coverage.

  5. I’d have to add the late-breaking news about Shep Smith’s new deal to the “HOT” category. 7-8M a year? That’s impressive by anyone’s standards.

  7. The next time the Norman Lear center does a poll, they ought to ask the question how many Fox Viewers simultaneously listen to talk radio while watching Fox News. I bet it is high number.
