FBN covers Bernanke, CNBC runs Mad Money…

Last night during the 6pm ET hour, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke gave a major speech at the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce regarding the economy. FBN covered the speech live. CNBC, however, stuck to its regular schedule by airing Mad Money, which was taped. At 7pm when CNBC was back to live programming, it opted not to air the remainder of Bernanke’s speech.

  1. Wow! What a dastardly act of omission. Nothing unusual with that company.

  2. The reason CNBC decided go with Mad Money is because it thought it would get better ratings. If Fox News can target trailer trash for the sake of ratings, then certainly CNBC can run Mad Money for the same motivation.

  3. Um, how was actually is showing a speech by Bernanke, getting trailer trash?

And what is your evidence for your statement that FNC targets “trailer trash”? Oh, yeah… none. Well, I thought that evidence thing you were trying a few weeks ago might stay… guess not. So sad.

  4. I think you read it wrong INB, or I’m not understanding you right, but the thought is more ratings for the yelling nut (Cramer) than Bernanke, and that’s all the point of running a channel is these days more than ever.

Still, I wonder if there have been late day speeches like this in the past that CNBC hasn’t played live for one reason or another.

  5. No, you read it right… but I was refuting El’s ludicrous ideas that FNC targets trailer trash. My question, reflects that.

  6. Well, I might not go to say trailer trash, but I might say Republicans or more conservative Americans. I personally don’t watch half as much FNC as I used to due to just the seemingly constant “we’re going to die” terrorist story that pops up about some random way we would die.

Either way, I still wonder what this says about CNBC?

  7. Too bad we can’t get RGL to “weigh in” on negative FBN or FNC threads, eh? But, then again, I guess criticizing your co-workers might not be good for job security.

  8. FBC provided complete coverage of a speech that will influence the behavior of all market participants in the next few trading sessions. CNBC gave us Cramer. Which would you rather have watched if you were involved in the markets?

  9. I would like to add that in the past 3-4 years, CNBC has NEVER, EVER run a speech (or anything of that nature) live during the 6pm hour. At most, they’ll recap it during the live 7pm hour, but that’s about it. Mad Money has never been pre-empted for anything.

  10. We need bozos like Elmonica and Terance to appreciate how the pedestrian crowd thinks. Well, it’s trash as usual.

  11. RGL, I didn’t *think* you had the courage to address my claim.. Btw, did you fire Greatlyappreciateit? Because she was a much better “sandwich board carrier” than you’ll ever be.
