  1. I think CNN did a good job in the first hour of the debate that I watched.. Anyway, I knew they would somehow soil their own britches as usual.. Which brings me to the General! Yeah, see, that definitely gets a NOT HOT because he had some connection to Hillarys’ campaign.

Oh and another not hot would be FBN. I realize not a lot of you actually get this channel.. sorta like the rest of the U.S.! But, they’ve been covering politics an awful lot which was predicted on here by several people. Anyway, I still watch Jenna Lee, Shibani Joshi, and Dagen McDowell for now.

  2. HOT: CNN/YouTube Republican debate. Democrat ringers/shills not withstanding, it drew amazing numbers.

NOT: Natalie Holloway ‘new evidence’ arrests. Turned out to be nothing, but nontheless was covered endlessly by news channels.

    Comment by Grandpa D — December 1, 2007 @ 11:49 am

  3. HOT: CNN/YouTube Republican Debate
HOT: Anderson Cooper, even when its in a bad light everyone has been defending Coopers handling of the “situation”.

NOT: Agree with above. Holloway and other Missing White Woman nonsense.
NOT: FBN + Politics = FNC. Whats the point?

    Comment by Mike Beckham — December 1, 2007 @ 12:01 pm

  4. Terance : On FBN, I don’t have the channel, but I am in no way surprised politics is coming up plain due to the point they were always a constant on FNC’s weekend “business” block.

On topic, in terms of hot or not, I’ll just agree with #2 instead of nearly retyping his entry, and I’ll add more if I can think of anything

    Comment by Chris (clind) — December 1, 2007 @ 12:02 pm

  5. NOT: Erin Burnett’s Q rating?

    Comment by Lurker — December 1, 2007 @ 12:44 pm

  6. NOT: CNN Debate Debacle. They may have racked up a huge rating. But CNN’s credibility really took a crippling blow.

NOT: BOR interviews ALF. Are you freakin’ kidding me? The Factor’s been going downhill with stupid segments like the culture quiz and body language expert. It’s gotten to the point where I’m only watching the first 30 minutes.

    Comment by TBDave — December 1, 2007 @ 12:46 pm

  7. HOT: The GOP debate ratings.

NOT HOT: CNN allowing at least 7 Dem. plants to ask questions, and then bringing the General that they allegedly didn’t know was tied to Clinton on to give him more free air time. Not to mention, they never challenged the guy on the fact that it was the CLINTON WHITE HOUSE, that created Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

    Comment by bigred — December 1, 2007 @ 12:53 pm

  8. Hot: CNN’s GOP debate for ratings and for the controversy that followed

Not: Even though I don’t think this really fits into Spud’s definiion..Bill Bennett. Yes he should have relayed his information to CNN but not in the way he did it. If CNN decided not to disclose his information after he told them then drop the bombshell on air.

Bigred: I don’t follow why you think CNN should have challenged him on it being Clinton’s White House who created Don’t Ask Don’t Tell?

    Comment by myview — December 1, 2007 @ 1:03 pm

  9. Because the guy is attacking the Republican GOP candidates for the policy, when it was Clinton’s policy. HE’S A PART OF THE CLINTON CAMPAIGN. Comprende?

    Comment by bigred — December 1, 2007 @ 2:14 pm

  10. Gotta agree with TBDAVE on this one - Alf??? OMG, what is the matter with this BO? Then he even says, after the lame segment, that they hope to get more of Alf in the future. I have been sayin for months - get rid of that stupid Culture Quiz segment, that freaking body language so-called “expert” and let’s have some old-time classic BO segments like in the old days. Truthfully, I cannot stand the guy but curiously watch him every night. Go Figure.

    Comment by sophia — December 1, 2007 @ 2:16 pm

  11. Bigred: So what was the policy before and don’t the Republican candidates want to keep the policy as it is? I just don’t think it was the time or place to challenge the General on this. It was obvious by his question he didn’t agree to it and everyone knows it was the Clinton White house who created this policy.

    Comment by myview — December 1, 2007 @ 2:24 pm

  12. I don’t get the body language stuff, tho I do like the culture quiz. The once-a-week tv icon spot doesn’t bother me but it’s not a high point either. Seems to me he’s doing more segments that aren’t what interest me the most, but on the other hand, his numbers are zooming. So he must be doing somethingright.

    Comment by johnny dollar — December 1, 2007 @ 2:46 pm

  13. Spud: With the apparent ICN dependence on other blogs and press releases, you never mentioned a big story of the past week: the Sean Taylor murder.

I’m not sure whether any network’s coverage should be rated Hot or Not, but I’m curious what people think of the quality and amount of coverage comensurate with the actual importance of the story.

    Comment by Ira — December 1, 2007 @ 3:01 pm

  14. Same as the other week:

Hot: CNN debate, now the most watched ever and people are still talking about it.

Not: CNN debate, because they are talking about it for all the wrong reasons.

    Comment by randy — December 1, 2007 @ 3:15 pm

  15. Hot: ED Hill who has the internet groups buzzing that she will be the new anchor of the CBS morning news show.

    Comment by louis — December 1, 2007 @ 3:43 pm

  16. My thoughts: Same as #7

    Comment by Missouri Show Me — December 1, 2007 @ 4:00 pm

  17. #11, after letting him filibuster during a Presidential debate, they then invited him on again THE NEXT DAY. That’s when they should have asked him about it. They didn’t because they were too busy covering their butts.

    Comment by bigred — December 1, 2007 @ 4:05 pm

  18. #17: Okay I thought you meant they should have challenged him during the debate which made no sense to me. As far as what transpired during the interview the next day I didn’t see it so can’t comment.

    Comment by myview — December 1, 2007 @ 4:21 pm

  19. Hot: CNN debate higest rated so far.

Not Hot:Another CNN rigged debate to help the Dems(Hillary)…the question is how long can CNN get away with this or will Republican operatives be allowed to ask questions of ST.Hillary and the boys at their next CNN debate?..I kind of doubt it ..I’m betting by the time of the next debate CNN will suddely get it’s act together and vent any GOP “plants” from a Dem debate.

also not hot: Bitter KO for going after E.D Hill for trying to help injured troops by encouraging her viewers to send Christmas cards to them KO says it’s just “Flag waving”….KO hate for FOX and Blonds reaches even new heights of insanity and even for KO attacking a plan to send well wishes to the Troops is pretty damn low.

    Comment by mlong — December 1, 2007 @ 4:49 pm

  20. Not Hot: News is entertainment is news is entertainment is news is intertainment. Let it go already - Aruba, hostages, missing wives.
Not Hot: CNN is getting away with it. Its sabotaging of the Republican debate.
Hot: FNC’s Election Link cars! (’Specially when Major Garrett is inside.)

    Comment by Cella — December 1, 2007 @ 4:54 pm

  21. HOT: Fox’s election vans. I have a feeling they will break or cover a big story with one of them.

    Comment by Kirk G — December 1, 2007 @ 5:04 pm

  22. I have to admit when I saw Carl Cameron live streaming from the election vehicle I stayed with Fox for awhile.

    Comment by Char — December 1, 2007 @ 5:06 pm

  23. #15: Have any more info on that? I don’t follow internet groups but I haven’t seen anything anywhere about E.D. going to a CBS show - which of course does not mean that it would not happen. I’m just sayin’.

    Comment by Holla — December 1, 2007 @ 5:20 pm

  24. I haven’t heard that anywhere either. It seems odd since she’s just been given her own signature show so to speak and is doing really well with it. On the other hand, she did do business news on CBS mornings for quite a while.

    Comment by johnny dollar — December 1, 2007 @ 5:52 pm

  25. Not Hot: Can someone please get O’Reilly back on track and away from the vaudeville acts? Here’s one of the top hours on cable and he has to screw it up with Alf, body language, Dhue (whatever her contribution is) etc. What the heck is the “factor” now?

    Comment by Dee — December 1, 2007 @ 7:16 pm

  26. Dee-”What the heck is the Factor now?” That’s easy Bill is Number 1 in cable news.

    Comment by SHANE — December 1, 2007 @ 9:43 pm

  27. Read carefully Shane, I said “one of the top hours” on cable. But you have to admit it’s getting away from what got it there and I’m afraid a lot of folks are going to turn away after watching the first few minutes - just like I do.

    Comment by Dee — December 2, 2007 @ 11:13 am

  28. I think it’s cool what BOR is doing. He has each of those segments for less then 5 minutes and only once a week. What’s so bad about that? Sometimes you need a break from all the debating and stuff. The culture quiz, dhue point and tv icon of the week are ok with me, don’t really like the body language segment though.

    Comment by Lurker — December 2, 2007 @ 11:36 am

  29. Am I really the only one who likes the body language stuff?!

I can live without the culture quiz… or at least mix up the people taking it, those two are getting old. The Dhue point is a good concept, but she kinda agrees with everything Bill says… more debate is needed to make that segment something special. The TV Icon, eh… I can take it or not… it is on Friday, so you know, whatever… it’s a segment done earlier in the week so the crew can go home early… I’ll respect that.

I think these help move the show a long… it can’t always be fight fight fight, sometimes you need a breather. I think those segments help out… give a chance for the nerves to relax.

    Comment by ImNotBlue — December 2, 2007 @ 12:33 pm

  30. I’m not to sure about the ‘body language’ segment; not very scientific. But I like ‘Culture Quiz’. Steve and Martha work well together. And Dhuepoint is getting better. Laurie actually disagreed with Bill last Friday!

TV Icon has good and bad weeks depending on the icon. Last Friday’s ALF segment was one of the latter. Heavy handed editing in of random ALF show clips was irritating and ALF (probably Paul Fusco) proved he needs a good script writer.

    Comment by Grandpa D — December 2, 2007 @ 4:04 pm

  31. For Culture Quiz BOR could 1st have Doocy and Martha on and whoever wins gets to stay until defeated and challenge other FNC or FBN personalities. Good way to mix it up and since BOR has a huge audience, it’s a good way for the FNC/FBN peeps to get exposure. They might even get an extra pop in viewership from programs that they’re on.

    Comment by Lurker — December 2, 2007 @ 7:38 pm

  32. HOT This Week: Fnc’s Friday coverage of the breaking situation in NH. The Fox Election SUV is with maxed-out with many broadcast bells and whistles. Carl Cameron’s live coverge, particular providing extraordinary reported while sitting in the SUV, streaming live, on it’s way to the incident in Rochester, NH. The CNN Election Bus seems really nice, but the FNC really excelled during this particular story.

    Comment by Objective Analyst — December 2, 2007 @ 9:09 pm

  33. You are 100% correct, Lurker. When it first started, I thought it was an attempt to introduce the rest of the FNC’s staff, to O’Reilly’s audience. But Doocy and Martha every week prove that’s not the case. I like your suggestion though… I’m really tired of those two.
