Inside FNC’s Election Link vehicles…

The New York Times’ Maria Aspan writes about FNC’s Election Link vehicles…

According to Brian Wilson, Washington bureau chief for Fox News, the vans do have a few technical limitations. “The signal comes in at just a hair short of broadcast quality,” he said.

He said that the vehicles were much less expensive than a traditional satellite van, however, and would be used when mobility and speed, rather than high-quality video, were most needed.

“We’re using it right now to cover politics, but ultimately I think these vehicles will be used to cover breaking news,” he said.

“The real goal here is to take the audience along for the ride as you cover news,” said Mr. Wilson. “With most satellite trucks you have to stop to stream the digital information up to the satellite. But we can go anywhere live.”
