DirecTV NewsMix shuffles channel order again…

DirecTV’s NewsMix has changed it’s channel order again. In the last shakeup FBN was added at the expense of CNBC World and FBN was the first channel followed by FNC. Now its set to the channel’s chronological order, which means CNN and HLN are the first two channels. I wonder if this is a result of Liberty Media acquiring DirecTV from News Corp.?

Cody Willard profile…

The Albuquerque Journal’s Tracy Dingman profiles FBN’s Cody Willard…

It does appear Willard is living a charmed life. He lives in a giant artist’s loft with tin ceilings in the heart of SoHo, surrounded by upscale shops and restaurants. He has put his money management career on hold for now— but it looks like the chance he took on a television career has paid off. Willard confesses he still can’t believe the show has attracted such positive attention.

“You know, I’ve got to be waiting for that shoe to drop at some point,” he says. “At some point, I’ve got to do something wrong. The media has been very nice to me.”

Willard says he’s at a loss to explain his appeal, but the consensus among TV critics seems to be that he grabs people’s attention with his offbeat looks and exuberance, then wins their trust with his candor and expertise.

“What I strive to bring to the table is just the Ruidoso attitude of just calling it like I see it and being open and honest about any topic,” he told the Journal.

Jose Canseco on Fox and Friends…

This morning on Fox and Friends, Jose Canseco was interviewed by Gretchen Carlson and Brian Kilmeade regarding the Mitchell Report…

Gretchen Carlson: I know that you say the Mitchell Report is incomplete. Who’s names aren’t on the list?

Jose Canseco: Oh god, there is probably about another, you could probably triple that list, as a matter of fact.

Gretchen Carlson: Triple it?

Jose Canseco: Um, I’m just going to say that Alex Rodriguez is not who he appears to be. And we’ll just leave it at that.

MSNBC to carry Nevada Democratic debate…

MSNBC and the Nevada Democratic Party announced a new Presidential debate on January 15th…

The Nevada Democratic Party will partner with the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and IMPACTO, 100 Black Men of America, and the College of Southern Nevada to hold the second Democratic presidential debate in Las Vegas. The debate will be telecast live by MSNBC and held at the Cashman Center in Las Vegas on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Pacific Standard Time.

Nevada, the second state in the nation to hold a presidential caucus and the first in the West to host an early window nominating contest, was chosen as an early state in part because 40 percent of its population is minority, primarily Hispanic and African-American. Issues affecting these communities such as economic development, education, health care and the war in Iraq will be highlighted during the debate.

With 11 days between the New Hampshire primary on Jan. 8th and the Nevada caucus, the Silver State could be the a circuit breaker that halts the momentum of the candidate that wins both earlier contests; the tiebreaker if two candidates split the New Hampshire primary and Iowa Caucuses; or the validator for a candidate who wins all three.

Wednesday’s Numbers…

Starting today, ICN will be making a change in the daily ratings delivery. Up until last Friday I had been putting out ratings based on the Live format. I had decided at the end of last week, after devoting substantial thought to the matter, given the fact that C3 ratings are being used in the upfronts for ad buying and because Live+SD ratings are likely a closer match to C3 than Live (because C3 and Live+SD both contain time shifted data whereas Live does not), that ICN should be using Live+SD ratings going forward. It took me a few days to secure a new ratings supplier that would provide Live+SD data. So from now on the daily ratings will be Live+SD.

I’m still working on what the final format will be. For the moment, I’ve decided to drop 11pm from the list. The reason being is that 11pm was originally added because Tucker and AC360 were both live at that hour. MSNBC hasn’t been live at that hour in over a year. AC360 is now only live at that hour part of the time, at best. Basically 11pm is back to being a tape war again. However if the demand is really there, I’ll consider putting 11pm back in.

“Happening Now” Profile…

The Lower Hudson’s Heather Salerno profiles “Happening Now”’s Jon Scott and Jane Skinner…(via FTVLive)

Jay Wallace, Fox’s executive producer of news, says Scott and Skinner seemed like a perfect match. Scott had lots of breaking news experience, and Skinner was known for her inquisitive nature, love of human interest stories and buoyant personality.

Skinner joined Fox as a general assignment reporter in 1998, after reporting and anchoring stops in Milwaukee, St. Louis and Portland. Scott has been with Fox News since its 1996 launch. He had been host of “A Current Affair,” a correspondent for “Dateline NBC” and a reporter for “Inside Edition.”

Still, nothing was a sure thing until the two got together on air. Plus, neither Skinner nor Scott had much experience with a co-anchor. Wallace says he’s pleased by the seamless transition.

“You don’t get any sense there’s any egos at play,” says Wallace. “Usually when you take people doing solo hours for so long, naturally you think there would be an adjustment period. But from the first day, they’ve clicked.”
