Loved CNN’s coverage with AC and Kathy Griffin. She really stole the show. I hope they invite her every year.
Comment by LR — January 1, 2008 @ 1:20 am
Agreed, Anderson being put off guard had me laughing. Really liked their coverage. FOX’s was like a old grandpa trying to do a hip hop dance. It didn’t work. Megyn looked like she was trying, Bill looked disorientated. Plus the Red Eye people inside was annoyingly political on NYE.
Comment by Mike Beckham — January 1, 2008 @ 1:53 am
I watched FOX’s coverage and thought it was really good. I thought they really hit it out of the park this time. I watched in 2005 with Mike and Juliet and thought it wasn’t good. But Megyn Kelly did a really good job.
Comment by Paco — January 1, 2008 @ 3:19 am
this is to mike, what show were you watching, FOX was not at all political, and I loved it, the bands were great, and the guy called Grif was so funny, we all loved watching it, what we loved was it was all live outside at TIMES SQUARE, and there were so many people from all over the country and from other countries, cnn was boring, but as we all know it really goes down to what network you really like and usually watch, and I will say FOX made you feel as thought you were really there live yourself, I also loved how they had all these comments from people on the ticker at the bottom. GOOD WORK FOX NEWS!!!!!!!
Comment by Sandra — January 1, 2008 @ 4:13 am
To Sandra: Well, it’s not like CNN wasn’t live at Times Square, or didn’t have the soundbites from international guests or the comments ticker, so I don’t quite get your squee over that. *shrugs* Still, they might have had a good show, can’t tell. I only watched CNN and that was a blast - from Gary Tuchman running the four miles, to John Zarella with the drag queens, to the drinking game based on how often Kathy Griffin called Cooper ‘Andy’. In fact, I could have easily done without the musical guests and the interviewing of random people, if it would have meant more of that hilarious banter between Griffin and Cooper. They both gave as good as they got, and once I decided that Cooper’s giggling was actually cute, it cracked me up every time.
Comment by tommod — January 1, 2008 @ 5:29 am
Well I think the highlight of Fox’s show was Megyn announcing she is engaged to be married.
Comment by wenchie — January 1, 2008 @ 6:13 am
Sandra: Every ‘bit’ Greg did he injected political opinions instead of humour. I don’t want that on NYE. Give it a rest.
Comment by Mike Beckham — January 1, 2008 @ 6:15 am
Maybe that guy grif was funny on the New years eve show but he is the most unfunniest guyI have ever seen on the other fox shows. He is just plain corny. He is a Mo Rocca wannabe. His cohosts laugh and laugh when he wears those funny pants where he is making fun of that judge who sued the cleaners over those missing pants. Not funny at all.

Anderson has such an easy charm. It is hard not to pick him
as the best of the evening.
Comment by Cella — January 1, 2008 @ 10:19 am
To have a good show you need a funny witty guy like Mike Jerrick, Steve Doocy or Brian Kilmeade.
Comment by Lurker — January 1, 2008 @ 10:39 am
I remember Mike and Juliet hosted 2 years back. They were good. Who hosted FOX last year? They weren’t bad IIRC.
Comment by Mike Beckham — January 1, 2008 @ 10:57 am
The guy on Fox seemed to be embarrassed to be seen with his co-host, who looked like she was on pills. I felt sorry for him. The CNN host seemed afraid his comic co-host would comment on his personal life publicly. I felt sorry for her. Both shows were very hard to watch for those reasons.
Comment by RC — January 1, 2008 @ 11:03 am
If your idea of funny is Mike Jerrick, Steve Doocy or Brian Kilmeade, then you may need a lobotomy. Because you clearly have no sense of humor. Those 3 are AWFUL!
The people who hosted last years FNC were so good you can’t remember who they were? Great…
and then some other person claims CNN’s coverage was better… but admittedly didn’t watch FNC.
God I hate the internet. Everyone (including me) gets to voice their opinion no matter how baseless or pointless it is.

To you those three are aweful lol. To me those three are the three kings of Fox when it comes to hosting a morning show. I keep hoping Fox will cancel Mike & Juliet girly girl show and maybe Jerrick will be hired to replace god aweful Ron Corning on the local GDNY. Damn, him and Jodi were so good together.
Comment by Lurker — January 1, 2008 @ 11:33 am
Only person missing on the Fox coverage was Dick Clark. Had he been on Fox instead of being propped up like Weekend with Bernie, I would have give fallen asleep before the ball dropped……and isn’t that what Fox wanted?
Comment by Tripton — January 1, 2008 @ 11:48 am
No idea which New Year’s Eve show was better because I only watched CNN but will say the CNN one was excellent.
Comment by myview — January 1, 2008 @ 11:54 am
Number 12,
Last year on FNC - Hemmer and Banderas.
Comment by Cella — January 1, 2008 @ 12:07 pm
I don’t want that on NYE. Give it a rest.
Mike: Except on your side of the globe, it was 3pm in the afternoon!
You guys all must be hung over: Eighteen posts and not one mention of Courtney Friel!!
Comment by Ira — January 1, 2008 @ 12:11 pm
Megyn Kelly is so supersilious I can’t watch her ever. She is just so phony and Bill Hemmer looks like a deer in headlights. Hard to believe he dated Kimberly Guilfoyle. Cnn was the best!

To notmyrealname @#14: “and then some other person claims CNN’s coverage was better… but admittedly didn’t watch FNC.”
I have to guess you meant me with that, since nobody else said anything about not watching FNC. BUT, I never claimed CNN was better than FNC - and how could I, if I didn’t watch Fox? All I said was that CNN did an excellent job - Cooper and Griffin really sparked.
/exasperation

She was ON the new year’s coverage. Did a few bits reading IMs and blog messages. Sorry to disappoint, but she did very well.

#14 - can you figure out a way to disagree with someone’s opinion without being insulting? It’s really not hard.
I only watched CNN, so can’t compare with other nets, and my only complaint was Kathy talking over ‘Imagine’.
Comment by Arthur — January 1, 2008 @ 1:30 pm
highlight of Fox’s show was The Red Eye Guys :D
Comment by chris — January 1, 2008 @ 2:00 pm
plus i thank fox news for not replaying O’reilly (culture quiz) hour… during the night their new years special was on repeat most of the night
you would think fox news viewers were “Special”
Comment by chris — January 1, 2008 @ 2:08 pm
I mostly watched CNN but thought Kathy Griffin was crude, rude, vulger and downright annoying.
It would have been much better to let Anderson Cooper and Kiran Chetry do the show without that repulsive woman continuly running her big mouth.
Comment by MikeG — January 1, 2008 @ 2:48 pm
I always wondered why is the O’factor always tapped not live? do you guys know
Comment by aVI — January 1, 2008 @ 2:50 pm
I watched the FNC program on the DVR an hour delayed, and thought Bill and Megyn, along with the others, did a great job.
But I forgot that Kathy Griffin was going to be on w/AC. And thank God I forgot! She is a vulgar woman, and based on what Mike G. said in post #27, she lived down to her reputation. Why would a classy guy like AC want to bring in the New Year with her?
And with all this talk about FNC and CNN, what was MSNBC showing? Would I be correct in guessing crime docs? Does anyone know?
Comment by Missy — January 1, 2008 @ 3:32 pm
Bill and Megyn did a great job….very real and believable co-hosts….I liked the bands as well…..I dont think they got as many viewer video clips as they had hoped but the ticker worked well and they didnt miss a beat…
Comment by Wenchie — January 1, 2008 @ 3:39 pm
Big surprise - the Geritol crowd liked the Fox News snoozefest. Too bad Lawrence Welk isn’t still alive or he could have been the feature orchestra.
Comment by elmonica — January 1, 2008 @ 4:15 pm
El its obvious you didnt see the bands…did you? LOL
Comment by Wenchie — January 1, 2008 @ 4:27 pm
Wow, I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who thought Kathy Griffin was rude, vulgar and classless. She kept interrupting Anderson and in between his forced giggles, he looked annoyed.
Comment by Ginger — January 1, 2008 @ 4:42 pm
I mostly watch Fox–GREAT job! But I did switch to CNN a couple of times & once caught it when Kathy Griffin was threatening to grab A.C.’s buns–it was hilarious!! He was so embarrassed!!! Too funny!
Comment by Caty — January 1, 2008 @ 4:48 pm
My friends and I watched CNN’s while we silently partied. I thought Anderson wss great and Kathy was brilliant and hilarious. I agree with one of the above posters that they really sparked.
Comment by serena — January 1, 2008 @ 4:49 pm
I turned on fOX and thought they did a great job. It was upbeat, entertaining and the music groups were great. Much better than last years groups. And Hemmer is so good looking, I could have watched even if the sound was off.
Comment by newsfan — January 1, 2008 @ 5:38 pm
aVI Billo cant handle a live news program or he is just Paranoid his guests will call his bluff and he wont be able to handle any talking points.. he cant even do breaking news LoL
Comment by chris — January 1, 2008 @ 5:45 pm
Gee El, I didn’t know you were a Lawrence Welk fan. I would have picked you for Guy Lombardo. New Years Eve and all that, but you probably don’t stay up that late. It’s so exhausting hating Fox.
Comment by Dee — January 1, 2008 @ 6:22 pm
“when Kathy Griffin was threatening to grab A.C.’s buns–it was hilarious!! He was so embarrassed!!! Too funny!”
I don’t find it funny when someone is embarrassed on TV. I feel bad for that person. I must have an empathy/symphathy gene that everyone esle is missing.

Loved Fox…thought Bill and Megan did a great job..I did not like the Red Eye gang or Cortney but would prefer them over Kathy Griffin. I flipped over to see Cooper cringe with Kathy running her mouth. She is the most obnoxious female on TV..even more than Rosie was and that is sad.
Comment by Gloria — January 1, 2008 @ 7:19 pm
Yeah, that’s it chris… if you forget that he does a LIVE news show on the radio also… oh, and that it’s LIVE TO TAPE, as in not edited.
Why does he do it that way? Hmmm… perhaps it’s because he interview so many people, it’s easier to schedule those interviews when his guests are available, instead of trying to find people only available during the the 8pm hour.
Perhaps it’s because it’s not a “breaking news” type program, so being live doesn’t present any real advantages.
But I guess those reasons aren’t as funny. LoL.
Comment by ImNotBlue — January 1, 2008 @ 7:30 pm
Johnny (#24): I also saw Courtney on the FNC show. Given the predominantly female animas towards Friel regularly expressed around here, I was surprised she wasn’t mentioned in any posts.
Blue: It is obvious that Chris is still hung-over…. from 2006!
Comment by Ira — January 1, 2008 @ 9:16 pm
@42 Bill’s show is edited sometimes its quite visible. Anyhow - so what it was 3pm in the arvo? I do know how NYE works having just been through it and I know I don’t want political comments during a NYE show.
Comment by Mike Beckham — January 1, 2008 @ 10:51 pm
and my only complaint was Kathy talking over ‘Imagine’.
Arthur: Maybe I’m showing my age, but at Midnight I would have preferred “Old Lang Syne” to “Imagine” or “New York, New York.”
Comment by Ira — January 1, 2008 @ 11:29 pm
My bad: that should read “Auld Lang Syne.”
Comment by Ira — January 1, 2008 @ 11:31 pm
I’m accustomed to Kathy Griffin and her brand of humor, so her act didn’t really come as a surprise to me. Anderson Cooper managed to get some good jabs in at Kathy’s expense in spite of everything.
Comment by Marty — January 2, 2008 @ 1:23 am
I didn’t see either network’s show being that I prefer to be out celebrating with friends as opposed to watching others celebrating on TV. However, I’ve got to say that Griffin and Anderson together isn’t what I expected. I could see where that might be rather interesting (at least for a little while) while the Hemmer and Kelly pairing sounds pretty run of the mill to me. Gutfield and Grif? Those 2 would have been enough to make me flip channels.
Comment by STP — January 2, 2008 @ 1:38 am
I actually chose FNC for the night. I thought Bill and Megyn did a nice job, but Courtney and her “party dress” was a little over the top to me. The Red Eye gang also annoyed me. When they would come on, we would mute the tv. I was surprised at the musical guests. I would have thought that FNC would cater to those who would more likely be watching at home (ie: the older folks). They definitely didn’t do that.
Comment by News2K — January 2, 2008 @ 1:49 am
I had some completely different expectations for the Fox show. Bill and Megyn were fine, but I was sort of expecting the Red Eye guys to be out in Times Square, not holed up in the studio doing year-in-review segments. I would have killed to see Bill Schulz interviewing people out there. Maybe it had something to do with Gutfeld being sick. I also couldn’t stand the political stuff. Did Gutfeld really say something about the media ignoring the positive news in Iraq? Really? During a New Year’s Eve show?
Comment by SuperNoxic — January 2, 2008 @ 7:59 am
Hmmm… a Janice Dean/Mike Jerrick combo could’ve made for a real wild show.

Sure would. The hipsters are the retirement homes would be rocking out to that!
Comment by Mike Beckham — January 2, 2008 @ 9:00 am
Kathie Griffin was insufferably obnoxious! CNN should have focused more on Kiran, maybe pairing her with Cooper.
