  1. Is Men’s Health the same as Men’s Journal?

(I’m not trying to be a jerk, I’m not a man and I don’t know whether they are the same magazine…)

  2. KO and his sad antics aside, does anyone really care what Chris Matthews thinks? By the way, Matthews is looking quite haggard and older these days….

  3. spud: Unless I’m missing something, I wonder why ICN didn’t initially cover this story in Men’s Health when it broke a few days ago.

It has been discussed elsewhere on the net. And Matthews’ comments about KO are certainly controversial.

  4. John - Matthews IS quite older these days.

  5. Any self-respecting news network would never appoint hyper-partisans like Ann Coulter or Keith Olbermann as their elections anchors.

    Comment by Buck — January 16, 2008 @ 11:55 am

  6. Of course Matthews looks old. He just turned 62 on December 17.

Oh and Olbermann’s Countdown show is horrible ever since he began to attack the other news outlets. That really turned me off. But I guess he’ll continue to do it, if he is getting the attention that he desires.

  7. The whole Fox vs. MSNBC thing leaves me cold too. I guess it’s become very popular to beat up on your competition in public. Wouldn’t they ALL be better advised to improve their broadcasting product and compete in ratings instead of trying to scream about how “horrible” the other guy was?

    Comment by Alison — January 16, 2008 @ 1:19 pm

  8. I think you should all read the TVnewser article on this because it calls them on their BS. First off, KO didnt make the comment, it was an anonymous source, even though F&F attributed him to say that. Second, they show faces such as Brian Williams, Tom Brokaw, and Tim Russert, all who work for NBC and not MSNBC, so even if he did run the network, he wouldnt run them. Oh, and if anybody bothered to watch his coverage, he has been more than fair, just like Brit Hume covers his insane bias when he hosts these things.

    Comment by randy — January 16, 2008 @ 1:50 pm

  9. If I could just make a point that sorta defeat the whole segment. Just because you run MSNBC (which is a premise that I don’t agree with) doesn’t mean that you run NBC News. Contrary to what they’ve said, Williams, Russert, Brokaw, Capus don’t work for him. It’s a completely different organization. They make occasional appearances on MSNBC. That’s about it.

  10. Fox being Faux. Distords the news to fit their agenda. What borders me most about their morning program is that, they read from the same talking point, and tends to be surprised when one of their host says something.

  11. Olby being Olby. Distorts the news to fit his agenda. What bothers me most about his program is that, he reads from the same talking point, kos, mm etc.. and tends to be surprised when one of his shills says something.

    Comment by Lurker — January 16, 2008 @ 2:17 pm

  12. The Fox Chat show/bash Democrats anchors say some other show isn’t news because it is all opinion? Kettle, thou art black, the pot exclaimed. And it doesn’t suprise me in the least that they got their facts wrong and attributed a quote to the wrong person.

I’ll wait for the correction that Fox Fans demand of other networks. My guess is that I will be waiting a LONG time.

  13. KO was sitting next to Russert on a election caverage panel, enough said

    Comment by Kirk G — January 16, 2008 @ 3:38 pm

  14. I’m a big Fox fan but didn’t understand why the Fox and Friends hosts even got into a discussion of this. They are giving Olberman a lot of free and unecessary publicity.

  15. WATERBOARD OLBY…HIS COMMENTS ARE VILE AND IN LOCK STEP WITH TERRORISTS AND ENEMY’S OF THIS COUNTRY …TREASON…MAYBE MSNBC SHOULD HIRE ROSIE TO HELP HIM..

AND SHEP DOES FOX NEWS AND THAT REPORT IS NOT BIAS…

    Comment by GEORGE WASHINGTON — January 16, 2008 @ 3:43 pm

  16. I dont know why anyone on Fox even mentions Olby. Orielly gets the last laugh just by ignoring Olby. (And beating him every nigtht by about 2,000,000.) The rest of Fox should do the same.

    Comment by Tom P — January 16, 2008 @ 3:53 pm

  17. Fox and Friends got the story wrong — Olbermann never said he was running MSNBC or anything else. And a major difference between the two is that Olbermann makes corrections when he is wrong on a story. Has Fox ever done that, especially when MSNBC is concerned?

    Comment by Kayla W — January 16, 2008 @ 4:51 pm

  18. To those of you who think KO is fair I say, “BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! You have to be kidding me.” I agree with Tom P. The best way for Fox to deal with KO’s penis envy is to ignore him and to ignore any attacks on FOX. Fox was just declared “America’s Most Trusted” news source, taking over from CNN, in an independent survey. If you differentiate between their news analysis shows and their hard news programs, they ARE the most fair and balanced. Even O’Reilly is more balanced than any of the other network news shows. Fox has MORE liberals on than any other network has conservatives on. Fox has the most balance in their presentations. People who watch Olberman, all two of you, are intellectually challenged.

  19. They were right on target up to the very end when Brian Kilmeade declared the daily kos to be “anti-American.” That’s a stupid assertion.

    Comment by FishOil — January 16, 2008 @ 5:45 pm

  20. Stupid does not describe Olbermann–I have listened to countdown, it is clearly one sided obnoxious opinion, not labeled as such. The ratings speak for themselves with O’Reilly killing him usually 4 or 5 to one.

As far as as comment #8 that is ridiculous. Brit Hume is an outstanding reporter and one with an outstanding background in journalism and political coverage, not a sportscaster (who never played sports) like Olbermann who only knows how to bash Bush, conservatives and how to be stupendously detestable—under any circumstance!

  21. I wonder who will be WPITW tonight? Let’s see, there’s worse, “worser” and worst, and Steve, Brian and Gretchen. We shall see!

  22. Re #17: “Olbermann makes corrections when he is wrong on a story.”

Remember when Olbermann and Huffington listened to a tape of Guiliani and then acted as if Guiliani had said Clinton would meet with Ahmadinejad and Bin Laden. Of course, he actually said Ahmadinejad and Assad. Olbermann blamed AP for this goof, not himself and his own listening ability.

Olbermann also condescendingly “corrected” Bill O’Reilly saying that he had misspoke when he referred to von Ribbentrop, claiming there should be no “von”. I don’t remember KO apologizing to BOR about this, and he clearly was wrong, since the Nazi used “von” when in power: Check Wikipedia or other sources if you want.

    Comment by Missouri Show Me — January 16, 2008 @ 6:30 pm

  23. First off, I think #8 and everyone else who brought up the division of MSNBC and NBC are correct, I mean, we all know Olbermann isn’t running the network. If he was, we wouldn’t have Joe on in the morning for three hours and still have an hour of Carlson in the afternoon.

Also, in all honesty, where does Fox & Friends get off talking about someone being a partisan. That whole show is about partisans with every set of hosts I can remember haven’t a pro-Republican bent. Maybe I am just too sick of FOX to care any more, all I seem to catch is usually the FOX Report and H&C anymore, then usually watch AC to round out the news cycles.

  24. > And a major difference between the two is that Olbermann makes corrections when he is wrong on a story

Yeah Major Garrett is still waiting for that “correction”.

    Comment by johnny dollar — January 16, 2008 @ 10:15 pm

  25. #7 It’s just like politics. Don’t try to say what is good about you. Just bash the other guy.

    #15 Your crazy.

Kilmeade pronounced it Koss when it is Koz.

Why is F&F picking up this story?

They don’t mention that O’Reilly isn’t news. It is opinion. They were just afraid to label him as the partisan he is. (A “Traditionalist” in his own words)

Doocy, Gretchen, and Kilmeade are all lame personalities anyway.

    Comment by Aaron — January 16, 2008 @ 11:03 pm

  26. Distords the news to fit their agenda. What borders me most

    And what borders you most?

Spelling that is commensurate with intelligence!

    Comment by Ira — January 16, 2008 @ 11:18 pm

  27. Did anybody commenting actually watch the clip… or do you just think what TVNewser told you to think? If you watch the clip (the first 26 seconds or so) you’ll hear them refer to the quote as being from a “Senior MSNBC Executive.” Oh… and it also says that on the screen.

    DUUUUUUUUUH.

As for all this nonsense over who calls their show what, I’ll past the same comments in this post, that I put in another post this morning:

Here’s what FOXNews.com says about “The O’Reilly Factor”:
“Now in its tenth year on the air, “The O’Reilly Factor” on the FOX News Channel remains the dominant number one cable news program in the USA. …Blending news analysis with investigative reporting, “The Factor” has gained international prominence as well — it is now seen in more than 30 countries.”

VERSUS what MSNBC.com says about “Countdown with Keith Olbermann”:
“Keith Olbermann is host of “Countdown with Keith Olbermann.” “Countdown,” a unique newscast that counts down the day’s top stories with Keith’s particular wit and style, telecasts weeknights, 8-9 p.m. ET on MSNBC.”

They key words in FOX’s description are, “news analysis.” In other words: discussion, debate, and opinions about the news. Nothing in “Countdown’s” description says anything about opinion. And now that KO has joined with KOS, it’s obvious what opinion will be presented, so it should say “liberal or Democratic point-of-view.”

Now, let’s take a look, however, at TVGuide.com’s description of both shows. You can find this if you search the “What’s on TV” grid, and then click on the program title.

Here’s the description for “The O’Reilly Factor”:
“The bestselling author mixes news, interviews and analyses, and some of his most passionate commentaries, not surprisingly, deal with liberals (such as, to pick one name at random, Al Franken.) The conservative guru’s ‘No Spin Zone’ has been the major factor in Fox News’ climb (past CNN) to the top of the cable-news chart, with some three million viewers nightly.”

Key words: ‘analyses’, ‘passionate commentaries’, ‘deal with liberals’ (mentions Al Franken), ‘conservative guru’.
Seems to me, that it’s pretty clear this is an opinion program, and from what side of the political spectrum O’Reilly is coming from.

Now, let’s look at “Countdown with Keith Olbermann”:
“The nightly news program ranks the day’s top five stories by what will likely be the next morning’s hottest topics for discussion. ‘It’s a hard-news broadcast produced and hosted by people who are uncontrollably silly,’ quips the wry Olbermann, who also conducts newsmaker interviews.”

Key words: ‘news program’, ‘hard-news broadcast’, ‘newsmaker interviews.’
Where does it say it’s an opinion show? Where does it say he’s a “liberal”? Where does it say he spends much of his show “dealing with conservatives like Bill O’Reilly”? The only ‘discussion’ it talks about, is the discussion YOU’LL be doing AFTER watching it!

There is a clear difference in the billing of these two programs… FNC openly advertises this as a “debate/analysis/opinion program”… MSNBC (and Keith, who was quoted in this description) still think it’s a hard news, and do not talk about its opinion or liberal backbone. That’s a huge difference, and there is no denying it.

  28. Then why does Bill O’Reilly say when giving teases “We hope you stay tuned for those REPORTS?”

    Comment by Paco — January 17, 2008 @ 4:47 am

  29. Paco, just to humor you, what part of the word “report” do you think only refers to straight news?

You can REPORT news, opinion, observation, etc. There is absolutely nothing in the definition of the word “report” that means only hard news, not an opinion or editorial.

  30. IMHO ;
