O’Reilly to attack Steve Capus over NBC camera crew’s presence at vet “demonstration”…

Olbermann Watch notes that Bill O’Reilly will be attacking NBC News in general and Steve Capus in particular, apparently because there was an NBC camera crew at the so called veteran protest event.

I don’t think O’Reilly has much of a case with Capus. The chance that Capus would be in a position to know; that he’s that much of a micro-manager that he could know, seems pretty thin to me. That’d be like holding Roger Ailes accountable for O’Reilly getting in a tussle with an Obama staffer at a rally. “Ailes should know what his staff is up to at all times and is responsible for their conduct and he should have prevented O’Reilly from creating a spectacle.” Yeah, right. O’Reilly is responsible for his own actions just as whoever ok’d that camera crew was.

If O’Reilly wants to criticize someone sending a camera crew to document an event that wasn’t, great. That’s fine. I think the question deserves to be asked why an NBC crew was tipped to this event and what their motivation was for being there, though it seems pretty damn obvious to me what the answers are and who was in the loop. But lay the blame where it belongs, with the guys who knew this was happening and authorized it.

As usual when O’Reilly and elements at NBC News are involved, facts and reality take a backseat to propaganda and talking points. On both sides of the battle.

  1. I’m very worried that BOR is playing right into Olbermann’s hands. I’m also worried that Keith will get a ratings boost because of this. Should I be worried or am I worrying for nothing?

  2. Given the situation I’d be inclined to say BOR has a point, but he is guilty of the same thing himself so much. It’s like karma. It’s unfair…but it’s ultimately balanced.

  3. Mike, what you need to worry about is why Olbermann haters are so irrelevant within their own political party. Talk radio listeners and Fox News viewers love to point to the ratings as validation of their extreme views.

What a crock of $h!+. No wonder these people turn to blogs for solace.

  4. “Talk radio listeners and Fox News viewers love to point to the ratings as validation of their extreme views.” {!?}

Yes…..those of us who hate Olbermann do tend to point out he’s a pathetic distant second to O’Reilly….doesn’t the size of the audience that overwhelmingly prefers “The O’Reilly Factor” over “Countdown” suggest to you that, perhaps, more people agree with O’Reilly than Olbermann.

Or, Elmonica, do you think they watch “The Factor” for its graphics?

    Sad.

  5. Spud, I think you got this one wrong. I was able to watch “Talking Points” last night (Friday) and he didn’t talk all that much about Capus. When he mentioned him, it was in the context of “NBC News was there to tape the events,” and “Somebody had tipped them off,” and then “When we called his office, the official statement was ‘He didn’t know anything about it’… Perhaps he should be paying more attention to his staff.” I don’t think that’s unreasonable.

All are valid questions, and because the report was (apparently) not from one particular show, the only logical person to seek an answer from, would be the head guy. If they’re taking tips from “attack-FNC” sources, he should know about it. Same as the reporter for “Rush and Malloy” who O’Reilly’s crew made look foolish. If you’re a reporter at an event, someone had to send you. Who sent you, where’d you hear it from, and what are your intentions now that you’re there.

To me, it appears that they got caught with their hands in the cookie jar.

  6. I thought the whole thing really backfired right into their faces. I really feel sorry for the vets that were taken advantage of by whoever was behind the whole thing.

  7. Yes I think the Vets were being manipulated it stinks…do these networks know we are watching? I like Col Hunt’s position on homeless vets, I would like to hear more from him not less. IF this is really about homeless vets and not using them as class warfare political wedge. UGLY UGLY UGLY why doesn’t anyone point out how distasteful the whole using the homeless vets issue for politics or ratings is disgusting.

I watched CNN cover homeless vets with alot more sensitivity, and their coverage was actually about the homeless vets, which also covered some homeless vets from the current two wars going on right now…Talk about Shameful.

  8. To answer my question from yesterday, I was worried for nothing.

  9. Spud, I think you got this one wrong. I was able to watch “Talking Points” last night (Friday) and he didn’t talk all that much about Capus.

Blue: It appears that Spud’s source on FNC and O’Reilly may not be very reliable.

Now I notice an item on top that today Fox News Watch will be discussing Olbermann yet there is no agenda given on the Fox website or program info on my digital remote. We’ll see if this is another bum steer.

BTW, interesting that one of those protesting vets had a blue tooth piece in his ear. Didn’t know that the homeless can afford cell phones with frills!

  10. HAHAHAHAHA! I saw that too Ira!

You’re homeless… YOU HAVE A CELL PHONE?! WHO ARE YOU CALLING?!

  11. I thought they - the homeless vets were being hooked up for broadcasting, you know mic and ear piece is there some place to view the segment? Did they identify themselves as homeless vets or spokespersons for homeless vets? I need to look at it all over again. You all got my attention with the ear piece dohicky sighting.

    Comment by Ree — February 2, 2008 @ 3:50 pm

  12. Oh, Ree… it was definitely a blue-tooth headset. No doubt about it. Looked like a Motorola or Samsung.

    Comment by ImNotBlue — February 2, 2008 @ 4:08 pm

  13. From the video I saw, no where did anyone identify themself as homeless, but everyone who hates BOR is saying they are homeless.

    Comment by kbass — February 2, 2008 @ 5:18 pm

  14. Well, then, kbass… who were they?

    Comment by ImNotBlue — February 2, 2008 @ 11:32 pm

  15. Odd isn’t it Bill O’Reilly has many charities he contributes to and highlights on his webpage, and they are dumping on him? I watched the video of the segment Spud put up yep it is a bluetooth.

    Comment by Ree — February 3, 2008 @ 1:00 pm

  16. kbass: If they were not actually homeless, then perhaps Greenwald, being such an accomplished director, dressed the demonstrators to make them look impoverished! The guy with the Bluetooth piece was wearing a 99 cent stocking cap!
