Neal Gabler gone from Fox News Watch?

Apparently, Neal Gabler has been removed from the Fox News Watch panel list on the FNW page. However his bio is still up on the Bio page. Gabler has not been seen on the program in quite a while…

  1. I assume he will be replaced by his holiness Karl Rove?

  2. I believe they said a few weeks ago, he was leaving the show and he was going out to promote his new book.

  3. Sorry News, but they will find another lefty for that spot. Hate them if you want, but Fox usually airs opposing views.

  4. I agreed with Gable on almost nothing but he made the show interesting.

  5. I know what really happened to Neil….he got caught up in his ‘cosmetic’ look and had no money left

  6. Rove would be a good fit

  7. Good. He was the only one on that panel who had nothing to do with current events, or topical journalism. He was a “media writer”… ie: he wrote a book about Walt Disney. How does that give him any credibility when talking about journalism?

Additionally, he was always so arrogant and mean-spirited. I hope they replace him with someone equally left (a little to the left of Jane Hall), but more reasonable (Gabler would defend any and all left-wingers, no matter what) and more TV-friendly.

  8. Neal constantly bashing the network that gave him air time was getting ridiculous.

FOX hired two strong liberals on that show to go against two strong conservatives (and a moderate). Yet Neal apparently saw his position as a liberal synonymous with being Anti-FOX. Irrespective of the fact FOX is the only network that brings out strong advocates for both sides of an issue.

FOX thrives on airing strong opposing viewpoints. Not only is it fair, it makes for good television.

  10. Neal who?

  11. Maybe he can get a job at MSNBC on the KO circus, he would fit right in.

  12. Honestly, this disappoints me since it was the main reason to watch News Watch to an extent, he was the other fringe for FOX and made the show overwhelming interesting. As long as they don’t turn it into a yes-man show, I’ll be happy, but somehow I feel the decisiveness is going to be gone and the show’s going to become rather bland like it already has with the old format being thrown out the window.

Still also, Jane Hall’s entry, which I believe used to be her name, has been changed to J. Hall. Maybe its always been like that, but she isn’t mentioned on the Watch page anymore. FOX and their website, ugh, atleast CNN does a decent job on their show pages.

  13. Chris: Although I abhorred Gabler’s views, I agree that he made the show interesting.

The likely replacement seems to be either Juan Williams, who is more of a political than media guy, or Rachel Sklar who IMO is too weak of a personality.

  14. If the need a leftist, I’d like to see Ron Kuby in that spot. While I NEVER agree with him, at least he’s likeable (for some reason unknown to me!). And what about Pinkerton - didn’t he hire on with one of the campaigns? Unless his candidate is doing well, I wonder if he’ll come back to FNW?

  15. I find myself missing Kuby’s take on things as well. I’m a little surprised that he and Curtis haven’t been snatched up yet by WOR. Though Ron has some radical views, he always expressed them with reason and good humor. He would be a good addition.

While Neal sometimes got overheated and definitely displayed “know-it-all” tendencies, I liked him on “FNW.” I wouldn’t agree with the above characterization of him as “mean-spirited.” It always seemed like the core group of him, Cal, Jim, Eric, and Jane always shared a lot of laughs.

Jim Pinkerton went to work for the Huckabee campaign, so he might return next week.

  16. At the top of the show that’s on right now, Eric Byrnes said Ellis Hennican was filling in for Neal Gabler because he’s out promoting his book.

Jim Pinkerton is also apparently still on the show… although they should boot him for joining up with the snake oil salesman Huckabee’s campaign.

  17. >>

I just rewatched my tape and Eric indicated that Neil had left to join PBS. Which finally explains why he has been MIA for weeks now. And that PinkerTool had left to join the Huckleberry Hound, er, Huckabee campaign.

At least the show wasn’t pre-empted again this week. I guess we are done with Saturday primaries and the 1130AM PT time slot experiment has ended.

  18. I think the real answer is Neal Gabler was fired for bringing too much balance to the program. This event is a good illustration of the American ideal: freedom of speech to the extent allowed by your employer (Rupert Murdoch).
