  1. Wow, looks like CNN pulled out a custom made bull whip for FNC in that coveted demo last night!

    Comment by Terance — February 13, 2008 @ 6:52 pm

  2. CNN beat FNC in the demo during the “total day” also. Good showing for CNN.

    Comment by myview — February 13, 2008 @ 7:08 pm

  3. I noticed that Chetry was off Monday and Morning Joe beat American Morning. CNN: Monday Morning: P25-54 = 122,000, P2+ = 315,000. Tuesday morning P25-54 = 209,000, P2+ = 462,000. I wonder if people switched somewhere else when Kiran was off or was something especially exciting was going on a Morning Joe. Although I’m one of those Chetry fans, I’m enjoying Morning Joe lately.

  4. CNN killed in the demo.

    Comment by Aaron — February 13, 2008 @ 7:53 pm

  5. Why is AM doing so much better lately? The Democratic candidates for President are all the rage, and naturally those who are interested in the Dems are going to tune in Cnn for their coverage. If this was a big year for Republicans, FOX would be getting the big ratings. A no brainer really. All in all, Dems watch Cnn and Pubbies watch FOX. No one is excited on the Republican side so they aren’t tuning in to FOX. McCain has a snowball’s chance in you-know-where of winning the White House.

  6. Spud: O’Reilly had the night off. FNC ran election coverage at 8ET.

Terance: Probably because the polls in Maryland were allowed to stay open until 9:30pm ET, and instead of altering their schedule on the fly, FNC made the same mistake as a few weeks ago, switching to Hannity and Colmes at 9pm before all the results were in. That probably contributed to the loss in P2.

    Comment by Ira — February 13, 2008 @ 7:57 pm

  7. IRA you said FNC ran election coverage from 8-9, and they averaged 2,239,000 durng that time slot, do you really think that expanding that time slot by half an hour more (9:30) would have given FNC that much more viewers to beat CNN in primetime P2+ when everything is averaged out.

    Comment by Sam — February 13, 2008 @ 8:44 pm

  8. Ira, I was actually speaking about the key demo and not P2+. I couldn’t help but notice at 5(from TVN),6,7,8,9,10pm CNN won by a pretty good clip in the sought after demo. I wonder how moral is around at FNC? I mean, they do usually win against CNN, but how many more of these “blow outs” can they handle without getting depressed? Even with the “regular lead” they average over CNN, and the agreement people go to CNN for big news, IMO FNC still should be adding more viewers in these situations.

    Comment by Terance — February 13, 2008 @ 9:30 pm

  9. Ira, almost the entire Show Lineup is wrong.

    Comment by Aaron — February 13, 2008 @ 9:30 pm

  10. All this i do truly belive it`s the HD affect.
I usual do not usually watch CNN or MSNBC but they have such great crisp clear picture view because the HD that i do tune in just because is much more pleasing to the eye even if it is bad for my health.

    Comment by Lynn — February 13, 2008 @ 10:09 pm

  11. Ooooh, an interesting point Lynn. I just got an HD television here at the NotBlue house… and CNN HD comes in nice and clear.

There really is a dramatic difference in watching the coverage on the HD side. Not just because of the picture (that’s obvious) but because it allows the screen to be designed differently. A cramped 4:3 screen, becomes a spacious 16:9 screen, where the graphics and talent can all be seen comfortably.

Very interesting point, Lynn… I can see how the HD would be beneficial during an event like this.

    Comment by ImNotBlue — February 13, 2008 @ 10:26 pm

  12. Terance: I think terms such as “low morale” and “blowout” are wishful thinking. Or maybe those terms apply to what Fox does to CNN and MSNBC almost every other night!

Sam: FNC dropped 200,000 viewers at 9pm after they had the largest overall audience at 8pm. I maintain that FNC would have done better had they stayed with Chris Wallace and company until Maryland was called. If you remember, Fox made the same mistake of switching to H&C prematurely in the New Hampshire primary which allowed CNN to win the night.

I’m not sure what is happening with Brit Hume, perhaps he is sick but he was supposed to anchor the election coverage. Another interesting absence was Martha MacCallum who usually handles the blogosphere.

Lynn: If Comcast ever allows, I am also looking forward to seeing the cable news networks in HD.

    Comment by Ira — February 13, 2008 @ 11:16 pm

  13. Wrong, Ira! The term “blowout” is correct from looking at the demo. And, “low moral” was more of an educated guess.. But, feel free to argue FNC and their employees feel great about the “numbers” and I’ll take it under consideration.

    Comment by Terance — February 14, 2008 @ 12:03 pm

  14. For the wrinkled ass suits who keep claiming CNBC is doing so well…….why are they ALWAYS at the bottom of the ratings printed on this site. It sure as hell is not alphabetical.

    Comment by Nelson — February 14, 2008 @ 1:28 pm

  15. Just a Thank You to the “Inside Cable News” for being here. Many times I have cussed you because my comment didn’t show quickly enough….however, I find it sometimes the following morning. Thank you again…..I know you have no choice in the matter but, people should know ratings are the most inaccurate goddamn things in the world….but, the ad industry has to have a barometer….that’s it. Good luck.

  17. CNN is gettgin higher ratings becasue its a Presidential Election year and people are more interested to know what going on as a result. Happens every 4 years. When McCain wins the election it will go back to FOX dominating every category.
